Dave,

I'm deeply saddened by the loss of the firefighters in Chicago, but I have to ask: Why were they in an abandoned, truss roofed structure?

Budget #2
Posted by Baltimore Firefighters Local 734 at 03:26 PM on August 28, 2009 comments (0)

At 1300, the Locals met with Chief Clack, the Labor Commissioner, and Deputy Mayor Thomaskutty to continue the budget discussions from the day before. This is where we are:

After furlough days and cuts in the unrepresented employees and other non-personnel related cuts, there remains a $2.9 deficit. We are ALL being asked to to agree to 5-8 furlough days (according to salary). There is no guarantee that there will not be further cuts later this year or next fiscal year. If we don't agree-there will be layoffs (no certain number yet). The Unions Executive Boards will meet next Tuesday to discuss the matter. NOTHING will be agreed to before the membership has a chance to speak/vote.

PLEASE, do not let this become an issue of dissention in the firehouses. It will not be allowed on this site (webmasters take note).

If anyone has any ideas-please let us know. I have already suggested getting rid of Dr. Levy. The FLSA issue is not on the table-that was a settlement between the courts and the City. Can't undo a court settlement.

I will keep getting you as much info as possible as I have it.

I recently been reading articles about Washington, D. C. having problems with their water supply.
While I was on vacation in Myrtle Beach, SC, I noticed dry hydrants situated near the newer highrises.
I counted 9 on Ocean Blvd. The Myrtle Beach Fire Department requires all new or remodeled high rise to install dry hydrants to their swimming pools.
Would this possibly help this situation in some areas of D.C.?
Billy Grover Money
Assistant Fire Chief
Ewing Volunteer Fire Department
Ewing, KY 41039

Dave, I'm curious as to how you have not picked up on the story of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service Lieutenant who was recently arrested for and charged with Sexual Solicitation of a Minor. Anytime the volunteers in the area are in trouble (Kentland, Riverdale) you guys are all over it! There is no libel in this statement, it is a public record in the Maryland Court System.

Have you heard anything about a study Prince William County is conducting to charge for ambulance service? I've been told that the FRA is about ready to present to the Supervisors and DFR is in favor of it so it will probably be enacted. Can't find any info on it though.
