Since Mother’s Day Scott Doyle has been in a coma in a Boise, Idaho hospital with a brain injury. Fellow firefighters in Montgomery County have begun efforts to raise money to bring the 34-year-old Doyle home once he is stable enough to be moved.

Scott Doyle was injured while enjoying one of his passions during a vacation with his wife, Steph. The veteran skydiving instructor hit his head against a canyon wall while BASE jumping.

Cousin Frank Snodgrass says Doyle’s regular health insurance will not pay for the air ambulance that will be needed to bring the firefighter to a medical facility in the Washington area. The flight could cost as much as $30,000.

Firefighters, who have already donated their time to cover Doyle’s shifts for three months, are now working to raise the money. Doyle is a piper with Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Pipes & Drums. The group has scheduled a fundraiser at a location to be announced in Frederick County on May 29.

A Facebook page called “Keep Scott Doyle In Your Thoughts” has also been started to help in the efforts to raise money.
