Not that it was a surprise considering how much fire enveloped this one story frame house, but most of it collapses into a fireball at 1:25. What remains standing puts up a fight until about 5:45. This one occurred on Tuesday in the 2300 block of Bell.

Geez…. What are they using a Garden hose? Where's the 2-1/2 or the Dack gun?

I was thinking the same thing. We are a po-dunk vfd. but we do have wagon pipes on our rigs.

Watch some of the other videos from Gary FD. Going interior without SCBA on a partially collapsed structure and so on and so on. Matter of time before someone gets hurt or the department suffers a LODD

Well, Geez, I guess we didn`t watch the same video. The deck gun was in use. The guys from GFD see more fire in a week, than most whanker departments see in a year. Yeah, sometimes they might be a bit laxed on PPE, but if you watch the video, there`s a white hat right after them to "fix that". Ed does a kickin job covering GFD. If you know anything besides "how to be a whanker FF"…you`d know that GFD does a kickass job with what is thrown at them. Very little funding and support from the city, a city that is litterly ON FIRE daily and a public that for the most part, could care less.

Spent a week riding with GFD back in the early 90's. I found them to be very brave and hardworking FF's. And VERY hospitable. They did not mind letting a rural FF join them for an
    on-the-job training experience.

I was blessed to be there when they brought
in Paul Shaprio (big water guru from LVFD)
to train each shift in LDH and large water applications. Not only were there many working fires but they also burnt down many condemned homes for this training.

I think GFD might have accomplished
just what they wanted to with this fire.
    Lay in a 5" supply.
    Contain the fire.
Let the fire rid the neighborhood of an unsalvageable abandoned structure.

Spend a long weekend on GFD Squad-1
    and see what you think.

While it is sad what GFD has for resources it is amazing what they do. Quit riding with the big Depts and go ride with them. U will not believe what they do. No one says it is right but they are a good group of people that do a great job.

Perhaps a great bunch of guys and true enough strapped for resources. Regardless, probably the dumbest first line laid I have ever seen recorded on video.
