There are only seven employees in the town of Cashion, Oklahoma. From the two videos above it is starting to sound like the town should be called ”Cashion carry”.
Liz Hurtensen is one of the locals interviewed about the latest news. She has some experience with scandals like this. Hurtensen used to work for the town until she got into her own trouble and freely admits to KSBI-TV that she is paying restitution to Cashion.
Then there is the former police chief who was recently charged with conspiracy and fraudulent training certification.
And now, in an apparently unrelated probe, Cashion’s fire chief/emergency management director and clerk/treasurer are on paid administrative leave for what the mayor calls “questionable financial practices”.
The chief, Danny Clark, and the treasurer, Stephanie Clark, happen to be married. You may recall their names (we did, but it appears the local news folks didn’t).
It was one month ago that we told you about a tragic situation the Clarks were involved in. According to news reports, the couple was the first to respond and arrive on the scene of a motor vehicle collision south of town just before 4:00 AM on Sunday October 4. An SUV carrying seven teenagers had run into a tree. A 16-year-old girl was dead on the scene. She was Kalee Jo Clark, Danny and Stephanie Clark’s daughter.
I am gathering KWTV-TV reporter Dave Jordan, who appears to be an excellent reporter (he broke the Oklahoma trooper – paramedic scuffle story) and explains this one nicely, was unaware of the previous story involving the Clarks. Jordan did report, “When NEWS 9 went to the Clark’s home, no one was there. Signs of love and support from a local church were displayed in their front window.”
One has to wonder if those signs could possible be referring to the loss of the Clark’s daughter.

Yes…those signs of love are referring to the loss of the Clark’s daughter, only an idiot would’ve missed the unused grave marker in the front yard with Kalee Jo’s name and a cross with flowers surrounding both. Also – odd isn’t it that they seemed to locate and interview Elizabeth Hertensen…one of Cashion’s finest – charged for embezzlement and forgery herself while in the exact same position who has yet to pay her own fines? (District Court records CF-05-0014A).
The Clarks are obviously going through their own personal hell. Whether the charges are true or not…my prayers go out to them for the loss of their daughter that happened a short month ago. Responding to your own daughters death would be a nightmare in and of itself. God be with you Chief and Mrs Clark.
While our hearts ache for anyone who has lost a child it doesn’t change who those people are. They have a history of dishonesty. The timeing coming so soon after such an awful tradegy is painful for all involved but justice still needs to prevail.
I truly agree with you Anonymous.
It’s just too bad that there wasn’t a prompt of an investigation several years ago, which would have saved our “Cashion Carry” town a lot of money, grief, and friction. It’s rough to realize that people that you trusted were only using “friendship” as a way to help pull the wool over their “friends” eyes. One person has single-handedly ruined the reputation of Cashion’s Fire Dept., and the personnel on that dept. have a lot of hard work ahead of them to restore their good standing in the community, their relationships with surrounding departments, and to restore their spirits. I sincerely hope that those affected by that one personality know that it was not a true representation of the department as a whole. If these allegations prove to be true, I hope that the accused are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and are never able to do this to another community. The men and women on the Cashion Fire Dept. have my respect and my support. God bless all of you.
Ok…. so it appears that you people are hanging these people without a proper trial. I am not sure what country you are all from but does the phrase “Innocent until PROVEN guilty” mean anything to any of you? This family has been through a horrible tragedy and this is just something else to burden their hearts. Danny and Stephanie Clark have done a lot of good for the town of Cashion and there are a lot of people who need to stop the gossip mill and realize that rumors are a horrible thing to do to any one. What you are doing to this family is heart wrenching. There are alot of us who support the Clark’s.
If any of you knew danny and steph you would know that they are the most loving and caring people in that town. Look back to when danny started as fire chief and see what that department had and look now danny has made it one of the best volunter fire departments in the state. You people of cashion just cant stand that someone is better than you are and the fact is you are all worthless. You will see that there will be nothing found on any of the charges danny and steph have been charged with. They do nothing but try to help that town and this is what they get in return jumping to conclusions is all that town does. Steph shows more love for people and kids in that town then some of there families. And on top of it all they just lost there baby girl. Give it a break and live your own life. Oh and to the towns people of cashion God Bless You cause we all know Jesus didn’t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is amazing to me that people who have been “friends, neighbors, and co-workers” could turn against this family in thier time of need. I hope that none of you out there ever have to experience the pain this family is dealing with!
Well… I hope all of you in the town of Cashion are happy with what you have done to this family. It NEVER ceases to amaze me how the idiots rally and somehow manage to win against good honest people!
I think we ALL need to stop worrying about it. Cashion has problems just like any other town. We all want to worry about other peoples lives but none of us want to check ourselves. What can we do to help this town or what did we do to hurt it! Remove the plank in your own eye before you point out someone elses speck! As for the people who are for the Clark’s, just because they are loving people doesn’t mean they can’t make mistakes(I know I have). I guess what I am trying to say is, let’s focus more on making Cashion a great town and less on other peoples business. (for the clarks, or against)! We all need to love each other beyond our mistakes and rumors, and come together in this time!
P.S.
As for the Jesus comment earlier, you might want to research Him a little further before you start labeling who He blesses and who He doesn’t. He loves you even with your hateful attitude! That’s the point! Jesus wants us to love Him and Love people!
How can anyone say that they are “good, honest people,” when there is legitimate proof otherwise? The OSBI has proof, and last I checked, the OSBI isn’t some group of vengeful Cashion people with a vendetta against the Clarks. There is concrete proof as a result of a professional, unbiased State Agency’s investigation. Cashion people didn’t do this to them; they did it to themselves. Whether you love them or not, the facts are solid. As more information is made available to the public, you should ask yourself if you truly want to see your town flourish, or to continue to rally for some of the individuals that have put the financial stablility of your town in jeopardy. If your answer is in support of the latter, then maybe you should consider relocating to the next town they move to, so that you are able to continue to show your support.
Not really sure where you are getting your information from BUT…. the OSBI has NOT (I REPEAT… NOT!) found any evidence against them. NO charges have been filed and it doesn’t look like they will. This has been a witch hunt from the very beginning and you are obviously part of this hunt. It never ceases to amaze me how small minded and hypocritical some people can be. I am doubting that you have any of the true facts at your disposal or you would stop what you are doing. This family has been through enough. Don’t you have anything better to do than to run with the rumors the gossip mill is spreading?
Yes… they are good people. And as the other comment stated, good people make mistakes. I ask you to ask yourself one question…. has the town of Cashion profitted from the contributions of the Clarks? I think we all know the answer is YES!
As for leaving Cashion…. I would have never lived in such a spiteful, small minded town anyway. Venture into the real world and you might see that mistakes happen every day to real people like you and me. Let’s just hope that someone in your loving town of Cashion doesn’t decide that you are the next target! You might be singing a different tune if it were you!
I believe that God has an ultimate plan for everyone involved with this situation and although I do not KNOW the complete story….. I have faith that God’s justice will prevail!
Yes, the town (fire/ambulance dept. in particular) has seen improvement…HOWEVER, there is more damage that has been done than you know. Hold your almighty toungue when lashing out at people that don’t support them or their actions. Contrary to what you think, I have nothing personal against them, I just don’t appreciate what their actions have done to this town. Like I said before, Cashion people didn’t do this to them; they did it to themselves. Whether you love them or not, the facts are solid. You are very correct when you say that God’s justice will prevail, but so will the State of Oklahoma’s. Just sit back and watch.
Interesting….. you really think the town has been damaged by them? The town has allowed the gossip and meddling of old timers to destroy this family AND their own community. It never ceases to amaze me how small “small town” mentality can be. If you are without any wrongdoing in your life…. then feel free to condemn these people. Again….. America…. Innocent until proven guilty. Obviously, something you have forgotten. I pray this year brings honesty to the people who have destroyed a family and their own town.
It amazes me that the VERY people (YOU included) who the Clark’s have helped are so quick to turn on them with NO facts. What are you getting out of this? Hmmmmm maybe someones job?
And what about the actual physical damage someone in that town has done to the family and home? I suppose that is ok with you as well right?
