After b-man-mc remarks I decided to look at more of their videos. The one where the Firefighter enters the vent hole (without an air pack and wearing a white helmet at that) is another must see. Also saw another one fighting a fire outside a commercial structure pushing fire back into main building. They then entered after sometime as fire vents itself through roof (At which point a white helmet starts putting water onto that fire from the outside)

Interesting. Normally I'd say we shouldn't arm-chair QB, risk a little to save a little, maybe the occupant told them everyone was out on arrival etc.

But that leaves some questions.

Why go offensive after 5+ minutes of exterior when it didn't appear to be dangerous to go in right away? If it wasn't safe right away, why would it be after hosing it down\pushing the fire back in for 5 minutes.

Why no PPV when making entry?

Why no ventilation period?

Why oh why oh why did an engine drive over a charged line???????

That dry supply line looked like 2 1/2 or 3". Is anyone other than DCFEMS using that small of hose for supply line anymore?

But I guess when you have a $1,500 light bar on a 30 year old truck, why not?

This is at least the 3rd or 4th Fire posted by this Dept. in the last 3-4 months and they don't get better as they go. The best so far is when a f/f enters a roof vent hole with a hand line.
I don't think they have a man power issue as most of the clips seem to have plenty of people on the fire ground

I take issue with the idea of "You weren't there, so don't comment." There are basics of firefighting that apply across all situations, and when these basics are not followed that is often clearly evident from videos such as this one. In such cases it is entirely appropriate to point out those mistakes.

Just a few thoughts from above post:

No one has asked if the building may have been vacant? When the IC did the walk around maybe his Risk v. Benefit assessment did not warrant an interior attack. No one commented on the dry supply line in the video. Was their a water supply issue? Was manpower an issue? Something to think about here is that we are always so gung-ho to get inside the structure and fight the fire. I guess we have all forgotten what happened in Detroit earlier this year. Yes, all fires do go out eventually, but hey this is what happened here. So the bottom line maybe some more training will help here and an after incident review. BUT we are not there, this is not our department. SO these are just my thoughts....

I've made comments about some bad videos but this takes the cake! I guess with budget cuts were going back to fighting fire from the outside again 1960 all over again. No venting front door not opened nothing going on but the chief waving his arms yelling. Two line on th back in the next yard fighting the fire, oh my god completely sad don't know what to say. Yeah i do there was a vid. posted a couple months ago from the Middle East. Those guys work with less and have more balls.

What drives me crazy about these videos and job reports is when the fire company involved pats itself on the back and says "GREAT JOB!" If you try to point out errors, the common response is, "Hey, the fire went out (they all do eventually) and everyone went home safely, so that's a GREAT JOB!" In these companies, there's no pride in doing the job correctly, in being aggressive and attacking the fire, in going inside to actively search for trapped occupants or save a portion of a structure, in doing effective truck work, etc. There is nothing you can say or do for these people - they need to get out of their little town and see how the job is performed in cities and progressive departments across the country.

I am not one who normally comments publicly on vidoes, but this one is absolutely god awful. If I was the chief of this department, I would have the video pulled and destroyed. Why would any F.D. want a dibalicle like this one put on the internet. The person that submitted this must really dislike them. Shamful.
