The ‘customer’s’ view: A fascinating look at a Thanksgiving Day fire. Man rolls video and narrates as his house burns. VIDEOS NOW REMOVED.

Sorry, these videos were removed from YouTube.

This is one of the more interesting videos I have seen in some time. From listening to the comments, reading what I can on the rigs and comparing pictures, this appears to be a fire in Schererville, Indiana.

The man behind the lens is the man whose home is burning. He  narrates the events. This is the description with Part 1, above:

The old ’79 vette went for a Thanksgiving Day spin around the block. About 10 minutes after we parked it in the garage, the smoke alarms went off in the garage hallway. Opening the door to the garage, I discovered a wall of smoke billowing inside. Called 911, opened the garage from the outside, and found the Vette in flames. Fortunately we got the Audi TT parked next to it out without a scratch.

We were a bit harsh on the fire department response time in the video. Standing there watching your house burn makes minutes feel like days. We are, however, grateful for the help and efficient work provided by the local firefighters. While the losses were significant, things could certainly have been much worse.

I watched them without the sound so I wouldn’t be distracted by the narration; these are both good training videos for tactics. Too bad someone had to lose a Vette and their garage in the process. I’ll try them with the sound later and get his viewpoint.

The responce by the Schereville fire deprartment may have been a little more efficient, but the homeowner was way out of line. having only parked his “79 Vette” and hearing his smoke alarms 10 min later there must have been a problem with the car.I excepect to hear these kind of comments from the over paid D-Bags that live hear in NJ put not from folks in the Mid West. How much time or the way the FD did there job may be an issue but THEY DIDN’T START THE FIRE!!!! JACK –S. the work was done rite. Oh YA, nice comments about the PD as well.

This is a town of 28,000 and this is the fire department that covers them, what a joke. Thank god I live in the suburbs of Ill. The department must have taken off for the holidays. I am a retired firefighter and love the stater sight.

Wow! They missed some simple fire fighting principles. Laying out going into the fire, especially when you have something showing like that. Appears to be no leadership. Where did the pump operator go and why did it take so long for the first engine to get an established water supply. The second engine had water supply. A garage fire that well off IS going to have extension into the house, this fact looked completely ignored, again leadership. Glad I don’t live there!

This citizen most likely voted the criminals into office that are cutting emergency services and if they are volunteers bet he never contributed to them you get what you vote and pay for. Unfortunately this is what the whole country is going through. Vote the assholes out of office that are cutting emergency services!!!

anyone think maybe this is a volly dept who were at home with their familys? looks that way to me as the second truck there was a different color. Also the second truck lays supply line not the first. all i see wrong here is the guys werent packed out upon arival. This would have increased the response time into the house. Also would like to point out that no entry should be made until a RIT team is established….Hence waiting on the second due?

    Schererville (Ind.) Fire Department
    Chief: Joseph Kruzan

Staff: Combination department with 45 total personnel.

    Stations: 3

Annual calls: 2,400; 1,700 are EMS

    Population: 32,000

this is a combi dept guys not a full paid service. Dont know about there but here our combi dept’s have 3 paid personel on duty that cant do much interior firefighting till the second due gets to the scene. The second in unit usually comes from the next town away which means 20-25 min response time. all in all i would say these guys did a good job with what they had to work with. The guys house didnt burn to the ground. Good job fellas be safe out there

Those of us who live in areas where the assignment for a structure fire is 4 engines and at least 1 truck are amazed at the response in some areas. Look at the multiple alarm fire in Allentown and Bethlehem PA a few days ago – 2 engines on the 3rd alarm???? I wonder what their ISO rating is – 9?

A typical uninformed resident that would never consider volunteering for the fire or EMS service and who probably voted for the scumbag politicians that cut emergency services funding. A dumbass with an opinion and no facts at hand.

Based on the owners lack of concern for the house and contents I would be calling the arson investigator on this one! The fire departments effort could have been better but you rarely find an owner who is that nonchalant about their home burning.
