STATter911.com has learned a firefighter is suspended while an investigation is underway into a firehouse sleepover. The allegations involve a volunteer at the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department in Montgomery County, Maryland.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, the firefighter returned to the station at Briggs Chaney Road and Old Columbia Pike with his date following a Saturday night out. She spent the night.
Her presence in the firehouse became very clear shortly before 5:00 AM on the morning of October 8. The sources say the woman was heading to the bathroom, but instead stopped along the way and used the bunk of a Montgomery County career firefighter as a toilet. That firefighter was asleep in the bed at the time.

Assistant Chief Scott Graham, a Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service spokesman, confirms that an investigation is ongoing. Graham says the fire chief’s office was notified of the incident by the chief and president of the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department. Montgomery County is not officially saying what allegations are being investigated.
Contacted by phone, Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Rob Ryan says he can’t comment due to the investigation.

Maybe she had uromycytisis poisoning and had to pee desperately.
Someone got drunk and came back to the firehouse?? Say it isn’t so? How many career guys do we know over the years that have done this, showing up to the house they were assigned to work the next day, after a night of drinking, to make sure they didn’t miss their shift. Everyone in MCFRS remembers how RAGS got his nickname?? This becomes news because it was a volunteer whose “guest” pee’d on a career guy. It would have also been news if it was a career guys whose “guest” pee’d on a volunteer. However, if both sides were volunteer or both sides were career, it would have been what it was, an accident, and we all would have been none the wiser.
The Union exists as a growth enterprise. They grow by getting more members. The volunteers have always and will always be there. If they weren’t there, then the union would fill those slots. So, if by bringing this story forward, the union can force the county to remove volunteers, creating open slots that they can fill, this will further their goal.
THIS is why this is a career / volunteer issue. As long as their are volunteers and union guys, this will continue to be the case.
Hey Take her home not to the Firehouse,
You said “I just don’t get it, how about living the american dream, 2 kids, a house (with no Fire trucks), a yard maybe even a wife. If you have a wife now, somebody probably has a girlfriend that you pay for while you are making a difference on that 2nd or 3rd engine. Maybe they do back windows. Good job losers” Some of us do live the american dream and still have plenty of time to vol. I’m sorry that your wife won’t let you out of the house to do something you enjoy or it must be that your afraid that she might have company while you are gone.
You are judging all the members because one person made a bad decision and now want to run to Dave and make us look bad. Did anyone run to the media when a certain paid Capt had to have one of his members transferred because they made a bad decision by making the wrong comments to a female member,I don’t think so. We ALL make bad decision from time to time in our life. This is the only way you feel you can beat us down but all you have done is make us stronger.
It’s funny how you all that work or get detailed there never voice your opinion about the so called games we play but have no problem eating dinner or talking to us like we are friends.
This was a combination system when 100% of you so called “professionals” were hired, you knew this when you took the job, even better the men with twenty plus years on the job were given these jobs by the corporations. The Volunteers were here before came on the job and will be after you retire. So get over it and do your job and do it well. And by the way if you wanna go there do you remember a former employee named Aaron Weitzman? By the way I personally know of plenty of “professionals” who to this day fool around with women in the firehouse and assume duty under the influence.
Dave,
Keep reporting the news as you see fit, and I’ll decide what I want to read, believe, comment on, and follow.
Your job is to report the facts as you see fit, and it’s my job to decide what I think is relevant.
I think you do a fine job of reporting a mix of the important, not so important, and fascinating/different topics. You’re bound to offend none, some, or all, ’tis the nature of the beast
You will never have a time when everyone agrees on the topic or perspective, so keep doing what you believe to be the right thing. You’ll never be correct 100%, and neither will anyone else. But you do the best job you can, just like we do on the scene.
Jake
whats the big deal? I mean so a little piss. How many members (meaning volunteer and career staffing) have done worse either by accident or on purpose.
Yeah she should not have been there: after hours and under the influence. But maybe they were drinking across the street and instead of driving they did the next best responsible thing and “crashed” at a “friends” house. Isn’t that what the real idea behind the fire service is, brotherhood. Looking out for our own?
So this one time it backfired. Sorry for the person who’s bed got pissed on. I mean there is no excuse. But I wonder if the staff who were sleeping if any of them would have encounter a female in the firehouse, who had reduced inhibitions would react when they woke up for that 3 am piss? I’d be like wow, Christmas came early. Because odds are pretty good, that relationships between those in the fire service don’t do well especially when alcohol is involved.
Hey bring all the intoxicated women to the fire house. Now we have more than one reason to use plastic sheets. If we can only justify the baby oil and the gerbils.
stay low. stay safe.

thought it would shed a funny light sense of humor to the discussion.

If I had my way THIS story should be on the front page of every newpaper!!!
(Dave, no need to check the ip. It’s me FitSsikS.
)
I love the Anonymous posts bashing the career Guy for being “pissed” off. Sorry I couldn’t resist that one. That being said, maybe its time to reign in the Vollies a bit down there in Maryland. Lots of bad press lately. If you make a comment, please tell us who you are. It shows your a Man..Wink, Wink!
Wow, Paul B, you and your winks are sooo manly. Thanks for your input.
Hey FitSsikS
That’s funny check the ip……….I pee.lol
Now back to the kitchen

All I am asking is what does this have to do with the story in question. I realize that every story on here somehow degenerates in career vs. volunteer but at least it usually follows some sort of path. I thought this may be about a (possibly) underage girl at the firehouse, a drunk girl at the firehouse, a guest in the firehouse after hours, someone asleep being urinated on but obviously I am going to have to go back and re-read the story as it would seem it is a blatent attempt by the career guys to discredit those hardworking dedicated volunteers.
The facts are clear and unfortunately the citizens don’t realize the actual truth. Opinions like “worse” things have happened do not excuse a lesser (although being urinated on by some might be enticing) discretion. The volunteers in Montgomery provide less than 15% of the service. That is fact. Probably 10% of that are chiefs ie. Batt. Chief 715A thru Z. Local 36 should be ashamed of all their members vol. in other jurisdictions and claim to adhere to IAFF guidelines. Why aren’t we volunteering in Washington D.C. This would be a great program and I know many live ins that Burtonsville/D.C. chiefs could train. It is unfortunate that we have come to this juncture but times have changed and the poor man’s country club is due to be gone. We now have a storefront recruiting station, and overpaid ($120,000/yr.) volunteer recruiter and career hater, and a volunteer bureacracy that continues to soak it’s citizens rather than deliver the necessary product it professes it is delivering. It is no wonder the volunteer of the year is a Local 36 member. HMMMMMMMMM!
Except for the three Career/Paid Captain(s), all of the other Career/Paid Fire Personnel assigned to Burtonsville Fire Station 15 are and remain there by choice. Vacancies at other Fire Rescue Stations and the opportunity(s) to transfer out are, and have been, frequent; I, along with the other Career Firefighters assigned to Station 15 choose to work there, myself. The BVFD adequately trains their personnel, staffs their equipment (buys their own equipment, too), does the housework, cooks dinner, etc…The Volunteer who dresses up like Santa every year is Jewish, for cryin out loud!…the paid guys really do have a good Fire house to work at and I think the Captains dont appreciate the situation ….this recent event is disappointing to all. The Volunteer Management has responded appropriately, given the circumstances. We know where we’ve been, we know where we are. Lets move forward. See you at the BVFD “Holiday” Party.
