MD Frederick MashburnThe Frederick County, Maryland sheriff’s office says a Frederick man suspected of setting an acquaintance on fire has been apprehended in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Cpl. Jennifer Bailey says 26-year-old Joshua Mashburn was picked up Wednesday by Little Rock police.

Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service Assistant Chief Scott Graham confirms that until August of this year Mashburn had been a volunteer firefighter at the Burtonsville VFD. He had been a member for more than three years.

Mashburn is charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree arson and other offenses. He is accused of dousing a 48-year-old man with gasoline and setting him on fire with a candle. The attack occurred in the victim’s Frederick home early Saturday morning. A motive for the attack has not been provided by law enforcement officials.

Graham could not provide a reason for Mashburn’s departure from Burtonsville. Calls to Burtonsville’s chief earlier in the week have not been returned.

Burtonsville VFD was recently in the news for an incident involving a member who had a girlfriend sleep in the firehouse following a date.

He definitely has that Jack Nicholson in ‘The Shining’ look going on. Do volunteer companies do any kind of psych screening of applicants?

Why would you think that the actions of a FORMER member represent the entire organization.

By no means does this guy represent what the BVFD is about. They might be a little overboard on things but overall would get an invitation if my house was on fire. you can’t say that about many dept’s today. Also 1 bad apple does not make the entire organization bad.
MCFRS has had it share of bad apples lately…… Alleged arsonist, and pedophile that got off a felony charge on a technicality.

The fact of the matter is where theres smoke there is fire. The issues at Burtonsville VFD are now acute and the department is rolling over and playing dumb. These lapses of judgement and behavior have been going on for 10 plus years. They were recently kicked off a fireground in PG and this in not the first time for that. What will it take before something is done? Oh yea what can be done? Suspension!!!! Oh my god that hurts. Let a career guy or gal urinate on someone and he or she loses the career. A suspension! OMG!!!! Or when it comes to a physical altercation who’s fault then when the department has closed it’s eyes. I hope the firefighter that was urinated upon sues and sues. There will be another issue and I just can’t wait. Hope nobody gets hurt!!!

Background checks for the volunteer fd’s is a policy that has been delayed because the volunteer MCVFRA has issue with it!!!!! I wonder why!!!!! Let’s roll over again so we can foster another murderer.

I’m sure if your house was on fire, you’d “invite” ANYONE and take as much help that was sent. And after we are done … YOU would say THANK YOU !!!

    God I hate people sometimes.

In the absence of anyone I’ll take what I can get but if you want the bare minimum take it. I’ll keep fighting and demanding professionals for my house fire with my tax dollars. You can have the three stooges at yours.

Maybe Jerry Ingles has a chance in Burtonsville? They do want to be the “Kentland ” of Montgomery.

I used to ride the engine with Josh at BVFD a few years ago. He was definitely OK back then. Who knows what he’s gone through since ‘07. Life can take a sudden downturn and kick you in the teeth, and this is what can happen.
