It Never ceases to amaze me how many people (I don’t call them firefighters) are allowed anywhere near a structure fire who aren’t wearing SCBA. Note to chief….If a guy ain’t weearing a SCBA, keep’m standing at the truck, at the hydrant or back at the station makin coffee. Yeh Yeh Yeh, they’re outside blah blah blah. These are the same clowns that will dive in a window to make a rescue and become the 2nd victim cause they had to act but didn’t have a pack. Get these wannabe heros off the fireground. give’m a traffic wand and a nice vest and make the Lt’s in the fire police. Let the fireground for the firefighters, no POSERS allowed. Oh Yeh, Merry Christmas everybody. HO HO HO.
GImme a break, Mr Otter
It never ceases to amaze me how many people complain about others not wearing SCBA’s, yet when you see them on routine calls such as CO alarms, car fires, or “supposed” careless cooking, they arent wearing them. We all know it’s “uncomfortable” or “heavy” but it’s not a decoration. You don’t have to be on air every second of the call, but when you are in the smoke, it makes sense to me. Whether it be nomex hoods, SCBA’s, P.A.S.S. alarms, or seatbelts, it’s all there for a reason kids. When I started out 18 years ago, we wore 3/4 boots, didnt have enough radios for everyone, didn’t wear nomex hoods because your ears are your own heat detector and seat-belts were nothing but a nuisence. Nowadays we have the advancements in safety and training that was not there 30-50 years ago. Don’t be a follower, be a leader. If you see someone doing something their not supposed to, don’t complain about it on a blog, grab the idiot by the arm and tell them what they are doing wrong.
I agree with Otter. And would like to add, why do I keep hearing man-down alarms going off and nobody doing anything about it?
Umm… was there any WATER on the fire prior to the evac?
Do they have Ladder Companies in Hasbrouck Heights? I see ladder trucks but what about the folks that pull walls & ceilings & CHECK FOR FIRE EXTENSION??? Seems they didn’t get it done on this fire. The first 5 minutes were great…seemed like they had it knocked…the rest was horrible. How bout that ladder on the D/A corner fully extend & cut a vent hole in the roof. Had they done that fairly early on the fire that was apparently in the walls would have been channeled into the attic & would not have blossomed out the rear – side & front like the video shows. Pretty embarassing display of FD op’s or in this case fire dept. oop’s.
The video isn’t very clear but I see LOTSA guys and “miles” of hose in front of the structure but nobody putting any water on the fire!? The only line is being played on the exposure as the fire continues to grow exponentially. Where the trucks just brought in for looks? Minutes after the evac tones were sounded, still no exterior water and the fire grows, and grows, and grows…. Sorry, its easy to be a Monday morning quarterback, just some frustrating observations.
