Turkey fryer radio stunt goes bad. Firefighter injured.

A firefighter and a civilian were hurt this morning during a radio station stunt in Tampa. Here are excerpts from TBO.com:

During a stunt for “The MJ Morning Show” on WFLZ, 93.3 FM, an employee put a grease fryer inside the van, which had furniture, and a fire broke out, Tampa Fire Rescue spokesman Capt. Bill Wade said.

One of the radio station’s employees was injured. A firefighter also injured his back during the incident at Clear Channel Radio, 4202 Gandy Blvd., Wade said.

Wade expressed anger over the stunt.

“They wanted a fire,” Wade said. “They had no permits, no proper safety crews. When the fire got going, they called the fire department.

I really hope they are charged with arson at the very minimum.

WTF. Those clowns need to be locked up. Everyone from the crane operator to the tow truck driver and the A-Hole DJ &crew. It was a big joke/rating stunt at the expense of the firefighters. When thier prison terms are up they need to do about 500 hours of community service (Dumping trash cans) on a burn ward to see how much of a joke it really is.

Just a thought, water and hot oil don’t mix. I think they should have maybe used alittle dry chem or CO2 first. Hope the FF makes a full recovery.

From the facts it looks like arson to me. How come they didn’t get permits? I also heard they were previously warned about a stunt like this

It was a tow truck company vehicle in the back ground, there were no fire dept trucks on scene until after the 911 call.
Also, there were no radio station employees/civilian injuries, that was mis reported earlier in the day and later retracted.

I like how the FF is wearing full PPE and SCBA and on air while he fights the fire, yet the officer who is standing right behind him isn’t even wearing his SCBA let alone on air. When they hit the fire they are both engulfed in smoke and embers. Good job on knocking it down, but lets be smart out there.

Do as I say not as I do? Glad they were all okay, this could have been really dangerous. I agree with everyone else, the radio staion should be fined at the very least.

There appears to be good reason to charge these boobs. The DJ who also hosts an afternoon talk show is an arrogant horse’s a$$. It’s frightening that these ‘adults’ clearly viewed this entire event from start to finish to be comical.
