The real joke is the local FD is overwhelmed and suffers injuries while extinguishing 1 turkey and 1 burning van!
The firefighters are upset there was no advance permit arranged for because if there were a permit the firefighters would get double overtime and meal pay while drinking coffee during the stunt – instead of their normal salary (2-3 times an enlisted salary while facing real danger in Iraq or Afghanistan.

I’m sure the firefighters will make sure charges are pressed to send a message to anyone else that does anything without hiring police and firefighters.

I understand a firefighter injured his back after falling down during this stunt– in broad daylight on a level surface? Is this they type of firefighter that you want rescuing you and your family from a top floor bedroom at 2AM?

The FCC should be ashamed of themselves. The fact that this radio DJ did this and Clear Channel condoning the behavior is indecent.

Hopefully the Fire Marshall and States Attorney see fit to do something. Broadcasters cannot be ignorant in their responsibilities.

Clear Channel should fire the guy and wash their hands of him and his crew. Then they should to do a series on Fire safety, not Arson.

“Was the Tampa Fire Marshal aware of the previous incidents and, if so, what was done about it (apparently some official warned the station in the past about burning)?.”

In the station’s 1st “public service” turkey fryer stunt a couple yrs or so ago, they got permission from TFR and actually had an engine (E15 as I recall, the same one that responded to this recent incident)standing by in the parking lot with a charged hose line. In that 1st fryer stunt, it simply involved the pot of hot oil and the turkey lowered into it, there was no other combustibles present and the stunt failed to start a fire.

For what ever reason, the station decided not to “trouble” TFR any longer with these standby ‘turkey’ requests. Of course, I doubt Tampa would have given permission to burn a van filled with toxic materials inside. I would bet they will, at the least, have a major fine by Florida’s Environmental Protection Agency for the toxic release to the atmosphere. If I recall correctly, it runs at a minimum $1000 for each individual toxic item that is burned.

The FCC should pull their license because they aren’t funny. This was the wacky plan they came up with. They planned this, and that lame dialogue was their best effort.

The bad humor police should lock them away for broadcasting without any talent. I’ve heard religious kooks on Mexican radio when I drive through Marfa, Texas with more talent.

Are things in Tampa really that bad? 93.3 Fan, I would be ashamed to even let someone know that I listened to that show.

Is it a requirement that one weigh over three hundred pounds if you are on the air in Tampa. Talk about a face and body for radio.

Lastly a huge shout out to Loni Anderson and Jan Smithers. You both played an important role in making me the man I am today.

What’s the big deal?! If you were listening/watching the whole radio segment, the fire go out of control, it was an accident. Want to blame someone, it’s management since they (management) allowed to ‘skit’ to happen. No one got seriously hurt. If the news anchor reported the whole story, the firefighter slipped and fell on a hose. I’m sticking to the radio station. It was an accident and the proper officials were called.

All things being equal in the ratings wars, these clowns should be charged criminally and then fired. Reckless indifference, arson, causing injury. Some never learn and they sure didn’t use their brains or any of the common sense they; wait there was no common sense applied here. Shame on 93.3 FM. Their excuse that they were equipped to “extinguish a moderate fire” admits that they planned this stunt. Too bad they have no idea about fire behavior.
