Never get tired of seeing firefighters performing water rescues in turnout gear. Glad everyone’s okay.
Prince George’s County, Maryland staffing levels questioned on two, 3-alarm fires:
Since I can’t directly comment, I’ll do it this way. Why don’t they stop whining and moaning, and reduce some of the extremely overpaid firefighter salaries…. PGFD is one of the highest paid in the region…. and they have all these staffing issues. If they reduced salaries (not a lot by far, but some) would let them hire more if they are so worried about this staffing issue.
The PGFD and PG County Executive should give more power to the volunteer departments. Ideas like allowing departments to order and maintain their own turnout gear (meeting or exceeding county requirements, like most other counties around here do), would go to save money, and ultimately increase funding for the county “professionals” to get better gear, as well as be able to maintain NFPA compliance for gear cleaning and such.
The county needs to stop whining and do their jobs. They need to stop whining in the station because they are stuck on an ambulance because they are 2 shift guys in a house… If you dont want to provide ALL services to the community you are sworn to serve, then resign.
Once again Local 1619 and PGFD as well as the county exec office try to twist an incident to better themselves, instead of truly worrying about the citizens they are there for. From my understanding, the additional 3-4 firefighter from the 1st alarm, and 6-8 from the second really wouldn’t have made that much of a difference.
On the same token, I am sure staffing will be blamed for the 3-alarm fire in oxen hill’s area the other day, even though it went to 3 alarms before the entire 1st alarm was even on scene… Though I am sure Dave, PGFD and the rest of the “professionals” will find some way to blame it on the volunteers, they always do.
***End Rant***
