A little break from all of the gloom and doom you get on STATter911.com. This is NOFD radio traffic immediately after the Saints defeated the Vikings Sunday night. We have compressed the time a little bit and took out some of the dead air. It ends just after the first medical call was dispatched for an apparent injured celebrant.
Also on STATter911 …

They didn’t win the Super Bowl, they are playing in the Super Bowl. Save the radio traffic for a couple of weeks.
Gees whatever happened to radios being used only for emergency traffic? On Christmas day, we had some yokel reading the night before christmas over a fire department channel in Ohio…and that interferred with emergency dispatch in two other, nearby counties. READ MY LIPS….those radios are not toys nor are they there for your amusement…and you are not the only ones assigned to that frequency. There might be a department nearby that shares that channel with you and might be using its intended use.
Nice to see that some people have not totally removed the fun from the fire service!
Come on Sam, I am sure the dispatcher waited for a lull in the emergency traffic, and the dispatcher cleared the air when an emergency call came in. We have to work holidays and in times of celebration as well as chaos, we train for the chaos and usually handle it with grace. I think that in times of celebration a little appropriate celebration is justified. That being said i would have like to see Farve take it, but will now be rooting for the Saints
What a bunch of idiots. You all sound like a bunch of volunteers on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
We will never grow as a profession as long as you continue to act like children. As an adult, you should know the line or limit on what is acceptable “fun” on a job.
Anonymous, fun in the fire service you say? It’s fire SERVICE, not fire FUN. This is a job, calling, profession, whatever you want to say, not a hobby. Go have fun being a sandwhich artist at Subway. (Not knocking on sandwhich artists by the way, I love me some Subway)
Lt. Sam, if you’re so UPSET that you have to work on holidays and in times of celebration, if it’s THAT tough, find another job. No one FORCED you to take a job where you might have to work on a day you don’t want. I cannot believe you are an officer, set an example and show some maturity.
If you’re upset that you can’t “have fun”, find another job. That’s right, I said JOB, not hobby. You think people at the local office building get on the intercom and give shout outs to their team.
Vent over
This is why I love the firehouse. I thought this was very cool, I am sure that the dispatcher waited until it was not busy to announce this. I loved it
jake…take a chill pill dude.
Yes, the radio traffic was a bit much. The traffic was short, and when the dispatches starting coming it stopped. By the way, NOFD is NOT the primary department for EMS in the city. NOEMS is a free standing department and runs by themselves for the most part. FD does get dispatched during high call volume times. NOEMS has it`s own freq. They were not a part of this “radio play”.
That city and it`s residents have been though hell and back the last few years. The Saints have never gone to the SuperBowl. Chill a bit and let them celebrate for a minute or two.
I spent a week in NO last fall. I did a shift on 29`s and a shift with NOEMS. You couldn`t ask for a more professional bunch of guys and gals on a run, at a fire or during a drill. In the house, if we can`t have a lil fun, well you gonna have a short unhappy life my friend.
WHO DAT!
Rockin! They do this in Pittsburgh as well whenever the Steelers or Penguins win a championship. We won’t talk about the Pirates…
something finally goes right for those guys in New Orleans! It’s not our place to tell them how to do their job. Sometimes you have to your folks have a minute. If it helps them to do their jobs better, then have at it.
I say don’t make it a habit… but no city loves their team quite like New Orleans (with the exception of Green Bay, maybe) and this has NEVER happened before. So, what’s the big deal on this special occasion? Statter said he cut out some of the dead time, which means there were probably plenty of chances to punch our runs if there had been any before the medical.
I’m shocked at some of these posts that are negative. You obviously don’t realize the stress that we ALL have on this job. Not just the dispatchers- but the EMS, fire & police. I work on an ambulance- I go from the “not so serious” call to the “fighting through tears- trying to explain to a parent – We did all we could” call. The moments of humor and lightness on the radio- that helps me sometimes get through the day. These guys on the other end of the radio- they are my lifeline! Not only are they dispatching me where to go- they are using their heads- listening to the caller and determining whether or not I need police back up on the front end. They are there when I call yelling that I do need that police back up. AND YES- they are there to bring a smile to my face- with an occassional joke or whatever- when they know we have had an extremely stressful day. You hear the firehouse talk about brotherhood. Dispatchers, EMS, Fire, & Police are all a brotherhood. We all work together- and we do it professionally. AND we have fun too. If we didn’t have fun- you would see a lot more suicide from this profession.
To Jake_speed09- If I wanted a job that was “service” only- and no fun- I would go work for the IRS.
Too all you haters you need to chill out. Im a dispatcher in maryland. I do agree the dispatcher saying that was a little much. But for New Orleans Fd saying that let them have some fun, lets look back at katrina and the horrible things that fd went through. So let them cut loose a little bit!
To all the haters you will never understand, you could NEVER understand. And to all that defended us, THANK YOU.
Yep I was a part of this radio transmission, my 10 second clip of a song didn’t hurt anyone, nor did any of the other transmissions.
A little fact about our radios, dispatch always has priority over other radios, as you can hear when the tones are given. If a call had come in, it could have been dispatched. It also is an extremely large radio system, so no we didnt tie up other traffic in other places. We handle a lot more radio traffic than this during Mardi Gras (today) and have no problems.
But to sit here and try to explain the feeling that took over this entire city is useless. Unless you were here, unless you have BEEN here you just will NEVER understand.
