A look back to 1958: Fire in a Salt Lake City department store.

Not much description with this one other than a 1958 fire at a Grand Central store. Grand Central was a chain of discount department stores that began in Salt Lake City and lasted until the mid 1980s.

    Mechanized fire pumps have always been able to deliver a lot of water, and they obviously could back then. But without SCBA and TICs, things were much more difficult. Overhaul was a totally different breed of animal. Sometimes the fire, even today, just runs out of fuel and we’re able to get things under control…looks like that’s what happened there. For it’s day, I feel the effort was as about good as could be expected.
