Chicago apartment fire: Another view and a close call as light pole comes down on snorkel.

During the first week of August we ran some early video of a rocking vacant apartment building fire in the Austin neighborhood on Chicago’s West Side. The fire was reported around 10:00 AM on August 2 at West Iowa Street and North Leclaire Avenue.

More recently the above video of the same fire was posted to YouTube. It is shot from A-B corner of the building. The initial video we posted (below) is shot from the B-C corner.

We should you warn you that the commentary on the latest video can be quite profane and is somewhat interesting.

Also, at about 7:20, as the snorkel is raising its boom, a light pole on the corner gives way and crashes into the cab of Squad 2a, narrowly missing a couple of firefighters stretching some LDH. From what I can see on the video it appears the wire attached to the pole may have been tougher than the pole itself.

Good to see all of those standing around left their jobs to come and help the White Irish Bastards.

Its funny how when any amount of public servants are around. The race card has to come out, How about getting off the porch and take the test. Oh that would be work.

Right you are, parafirepig. I was wondering the same thing. Everyone should help, not stand around cussing and making verbal slurs against others.

Its easier to stand on the corner and wait for the welfare check from Obama than work! This is the downfall of American society right before your eyes. Our once proud and productive Nation is becoming a third world welfare state. The Justice Department (This is no joke) has sued several fire departments in Virginia and made them lower their entry exams to Fourth Grade math and english because minorities could not pass the test. How does a test know the color of the person taking it? What message does that send to people who excell and work to become Firefighters. Sad days Brothers!

Back to the fire and leaving the ignorance of the videographer out:

If water is put on the fire, it will go out?

I realize we all have bad days, but over 7 minutes to get water flowing from the tower that was placed in the collapse zone?

Did they ever get water flowing from the Squad?

Guess it goes to show we can all have a clusterfoxtrot no matter how big of a department or busy we are.

The ignorance of the local bystanders (most videos) never ceases to amaze me; nor does the race card being thrown around. Again opening your mouth without engaging your brain. It is pitiful to see how misinformed many of our citizens are.

When in the hell did everone stop laying their own line??? each of those arriving units should have laid its own line. It was no seceret that 4-6 supply lines for 4-6 attack units would be needed from the outset. I know dozens of departments that require ‘lay your own coming in’ water suppy sop’s.
My little town of 2900 would have 2500-3500 gpm flowing with 3 custom engines on this defensive operation in less than 10-15 minutes… with half that time spent responding. Wayyyyyyyyyyyy to much time hand jacking ldh.

I’m glad to see the white firefighters don’t care that they are the minority in this neighborhood and fight the fire without race, creed or nationality even being given a thought. My utmost respect for them serving all the public.
Too bad Rev Al Sharpton or Rev Jesse jackson isn’t leading a thankyou rally for these true public servants.
