I hope these guys think they will ever be in the brotherhood……How the hell could you stand there and watch one of your neighbors houses burn…….and tell me why any of these people signed up to be firefighters……do the people have to pay a fee to recieve medical care from the same MUTTS? Chalk this up as one place never to live!!!

The more I see and read and now hear about the tragedy/travesty the more pissed I get. I don’t care if this couple paid or didn’t pay, if they forgot (as they claimed) or simply gambled, the “firefighters” should’ve fought this fire. I know, I know, “they were just following orders.” Bulls**t! There are orders and then there is humanity. For f**ks sake, this was a person home.

I’m sick of hearing the excuses as to why this fire wasn’t fought, and frankly I’m equally sickened by those in the fire service who defend the inaction of the South Fulton “Fire Department”.

I don’t care if you think subscription service is a good idea or a bad idea, or whether you blame the county or municipal governments, the fact is firefighters – “firefighters” – watched this families outbuildings burn, watched their animals perish and stood by doing nothing to prevent their home from burning to the ground. How can anyone possibly defend this?! ESPECIALLY those of you who call YOURSELVES firefighters.

The fire service gets a lot of misguided bad press and more than its fair share of black eyes, but this is one case where we deserve the bad press, where we deserve not one but two black eyes (and maybe a broken jaw). I don’t know about the rest of you, but my head hangs a bit lower today. This is shameful… to the say the least.

You get what you pay for. If the citizens don’t care or the govt is corrupt/inept, like most of them are, then there are consequences for all of it.

Wow. A True Firefighter, I think it’s you who has no clue about the brotherhood! How quickly you have turned your back on your BROTHERS for something that is not the fault of the firefighters, not the fault of the fire chief, not the fault of the department, but squarely the fault of the stupid county government.
It sickens me that a small minority of firefighters all over the country are so fast to abandon their brothers and colleagues in this situation. This is the time you should be rallying behind them and supporting them to get this pathetic and horribly floored subscription system abolished.

Clark de Bear has childish thinking. These guys, according to the Chief, have had to pay for their own fuel out of the coke machine. Jeez, you don’t think that is dedication. Half the guys in my department make over 100k a year and would rather wipe their butts with their hands than pay for toilet paper when on duty. Buy fuel for their trucks, fat ffingggg chance.

It’s expensive to run a FD and it costs a lot of taxpayer money. The folks in that county, through their represenatives, decided that a subscription form of fire service was ok, That’s their decision, it’s America and I honor their right to make that decision. Fire responses are not a constitutional right and they were not always a governmental service. Clark, heres a shock for you son, the insurance company will not pay a claim if you don’t have insurance. If you go into a grocery store you have to pay to get food. There is no free lunch. If those folks wanted a fire department they could have one. But like the city taxpayers, they will have to pay for it and it’s not $75.00 a year. The county and the county taxpayers made a business decision, honor that decision.

Clark writes: “The fire service gets a lot of misguided bad press… but this is one case where we deserve the bad press, where we deserve not one but two black eyes (and maybe a broken jaw). I don’t know about the rest of you, but my head hangs a bit lower today.”

What are you, the maltese Jesus who takes on the sins of the world. Put your little peanut head up son it will be ok, it’s only business. Punch yourself in the eye if that makes you feel better, but keep me out of your little pity party.

As a firefighter and fire instructor with over 44 years as a volunteer firefighter, I find this departments lack of response to quote NJ FF….”Atrocious”. I don’t care if someone pays a fee, is a CEO, farmer, on welfare, a dirt bag, or what side of a municiple line someone lived on. If called I would not even thing twice about my duty to serve and protect life and property.
After being alerted and on the road, an officer cancels the entire response, according to the radio traffic, because they did not pay. What would these firefighters, (I use the term loosely), do ro say if one of their children were trapped in a vehicle and the rescue crew said “The family didn’t pay their fee, cancel the response”? Brotherhood is taking care of your own, but not at the expense of someone else!!!.

I want to know….did this fire department ever accept or apply and receive any county, state or federal funds or received state or federal training??? If they did, then these folks paid taxes to the state and federal government and therefore paid their fee. It’s not a matter of entitlement but a matter of what is just and fair.
