There had been concern that a federal government shutdown would stop this year's Cherry Blossom parade in the Nation's Capital. It actually took something less political to bring a halt to the parade.
Hundred of spectators were lined along Constitution Avenue at 12th Street, Northwest late Saturday morning and watched as DC firefighters dealt with a vehicle fire in the middle of the route. They applauded as Engine 2 arrived and again after the firefighters quickly extinguished the engine fire.
The SUV was towing a float carrying the band Kicking Daisies when smoke and flames began coming from under the hood. There are at least 16 videos uploaded to YouTube from the people who found the parade they came to see suddenly interrupted. The video above seems to be the most extensive. The video below appears to the closest and earliest video. Both videos show people unhitching the float soon after the fire was discovered.

After listening to the video photographer's narrative, I am thinking he must be a key player in O'Bama's administration.
WOW, firefighters being cheered (not jeered). Also, should I cancel my order for my new Dodge Durango?
Was that one of Kwame Brown's ride's?
Yay for citizen commentary. 3:24 for a response into the middle of a parade route from the time you started taping (I don't know how long it took to dispatch) and you complain? Try getting that fast of a response anywhere else. And it's hard to release the hood from inside when the supports burned thru (as you commented "the thing went down oh no!"), and the plastic handle melted off the dash.
so the MPDC doesn't carry any dry chem extinguishers in their vehicles?
Yeah no kidding. I was looking at buying a new Durango. NOT NOW.
I dont' think that Chrysler would be interestted in using this video to sell Durango's for their towing ability! Don't the DC Ambulances (which was sitting in the background) carry extinguishers????
I guess the DCFD ambulance or is it FEMS doesn't have any either. It is just siiting there the crew may be sleeping…….
Look at me I'm cool. Standing in the smoke not breathing air. Wait until you see me when I have lung cancer! Why even wear them on your back if you are not going to use them?
Are you kidding me with the bottle comment. The fire is so small he isnt even in any smoke. Come on guys are we so safety concerned now we cant even do small day to day things without thinking the world is coming to an end.
No SCBA? Shame on the DCFD.
Safety vest gurus and yard breathers … shut up … just sayin
Yeah man, lung cancer is awesome. Just sayin.
You guys love to talk about all the protections your almighty union fought for, then refuse to use them on the grounds that it's for pussies. Do you even listen to yourselves?
Either use the packs or decline the presumptive cancer benefits when you get the diagnosis. Can't (or shouldn't) have it both ways. Why should I pay for the consequences of your willful failure (refusal, even) to use the protection I already paid for?
Well if previous Dodge recalls for fire concerns (Ram, Journey) werent enough to steer the public away from the newer "more refined" Durango dont think this will make much of a difference. Maybe they should give away free extinguishers with every Dodge purchase? And use your SCBA. Know I dont want car fire chems in my lungs…
OMG someone use a fire extingisher! I can here the stories now, "they should only use an extinguisher if they issue the citizens turnout gear and SCBA" "Need at least an 1 3/4 on that fire" and so on and so on…. K
