Fire department shut down in North Randall, Ohio. Mayor says it’s for maintenance.

As of today the fire department in the Village of North Randall, Ohio is closed. Mayor David Smith tells reporters it's a temporary move to allow for apparatus repairs and maintenance checks that begin tomorrow. Obviously, that's something most departments handle without a complete shut down. There's not a lot in the way of explanation for all of this. North Randall officials say 911 calls will be handled by a neighboring fire department.

There is obviously more to it than apparatus repairs and maintenance checks. This is sure to leave the politicians with egg on their face regardless of the impact and IF there happens to be a fatal event maybe even legal problems.

      My 2 cents from Calif.
1st. Why doesn't this FD have a Reserve Engine?
2nd. Why didn't the Chief set up to borrow a Reserve Engine from a neighboring FD?
3rd. Why has the equipment been allowed to get to the point of dis-repair that all of the equipment has to be taken "Off The Run/'Grounded'" for one or more days?
4th. To me it seems that their is some "undercurrent" of fiscal mismanagement if  this has to be done without adquate "Foresight" to maintain the FD  Operationally 24/7 during this time.
5th. This has lead to a form of "Mutual Aid Mooching" at the expense of the Citizens of the Community. Extended resposne times has its consequences.

North Randall Village is flat broke…ain't got no money, so all of its equipment has turned to crap.  This has happened over the past couple of years.  Recently, the Mayor tried to get the policemen to work for free, but I heard that's not working out, so maybe that's why he shut ddown the fire department…to save money he can't save in the police department.
To show how busted that place is, their newest engine is a 1982 Ford they bought a couple of years ago.  They just bought a new police cruiser that has over 100,000 miles on it and it has less mileage than their other cruisers.
One of their cops told me the roof at the police station leaks so bad they had to put about 6 buckets out when it rains and when they fingerprint someone the roof drips on the cop and prisoner's head.
