Marc S. Bashoor has been confirmed by the County Council as the chief of the Prince George's County (MD) Fire/EMS Department. Here's an excerpt from Daniel Valentine's story at Gazette.net:
Marc Bashoor was unanimously confirmed as fire chief amid applause from an audience of uniformed firefighters and EMS workers.
“I know this process is very long,” Baker told the council. “I appreciate the tough questioning and sincere way you went about this.”
Bashoor is a 23-year worker with the county fire/EMS department who left for an emergency management post in West Virginia in 2005. He returned after Baker was elected late last year to take over the department, which handles more than 179,000 fire and emergency calls per year.
Now here's a question for you. News wise it has been an unusually quiet period for PGFD since Chief Bashoor took over at the start of the year. Is it because Marc Bashoor is so good at what he does or is it because his friend Dave Statter retired from the TV news business a year ago?
Either way, congratulations chief.

Congratulations ! Chief Marc Bashoor. After all of the problems I've read about in PGFD
Hopefully you can get things to work better now.
I did not see any uniformed firefighters or ems workers in attendance. I only saw brown nosers and management.
Riley – obviously, in order to make such a lame comment, YOU must have been there too, so I have to ask…which of your two self-imposed catagories would that stupid statement place YOU under?
Actually I was a reporter and saw you there. You were either ordered there, or you were attending to make sure that your gag reflex still enabled you to swallow a giant kielbasa. Or you could have been thirsty for more Kool-Aid. Talk to the followers of Jimmy Jones to find out how that worked out. My personal belief is that you want to be a Major or you just enjoy butt kissing. How about being a real leader and stop stepping on people just to sniff the Fire Chiefs underwear. My statement was one of facts and truth while your opinion is biased from the taste of power and personality weakness.
Ricky, actually, if you felt so strongly about this and were there, yet lacked the courage to speak up and state your concerns, it doesn’t make you a “reporter”, it makes you a coward. Any fool with a keyboard can lob epithets after the fact. You obviously lacked the necessary courage to to stand up and work to make a difference at the moment when you had the oppportunity. Any further comments you make beyond this point are only making those who read them laugh at you harder.
In reading the comments I am appalled at Ricky Rily's vile words. Rily (I dare not use the term Chief associated with you) The idea that you as an experienced (Chief Officer) makes me sick Onecan only believe Chief Bashoor. Can and will institute the Professionalism PGFD once enjoyed. It doesn't really matter who was in attendance. The fact that you Rily can make ugly remarks against people is an absolute shameful disgrace. I heard about you from people who know and respect you in the past. I had a certain degree of respect for you. However your disgusting words have taken away any positive thoughts I may have had. What is wrong with you? I am a Retired Lieutenant from a neighboring jurisdiction in the Washington Metropolitan Region. I am also a Life Time Volunteer member with one of the busiest Stations in Prince Georges County. Your smart mouth juvenile mentality speaks volumes of just what you are. A blow hard mouthy worthless do nothing weasel. Chief Bashoor deserved the best support from everyone in his confirmation hearing. You should be ashamed of yourself with your words of agitation. There is but one Fire Chief. Chief Bashoor derves the very best Professionalism by everyone. Career and Volunteer. Rily climb out of your sand box, recess is over. Welcome to the 21st Century Fire and EMS Service.
Thank You
WOW! Ricky Riley is now claiming to be a REPORTER?
Golly! Well, I guess that might be considered a small step up from Riley's earlier work as ghost writer of "Probie Days" for his good friend Jerry Engle.
Tell us, Ricky…Exactly who was stupid enough to hire you to report for them? My guess is it must be one of those snobbish wine connoseur magazines, because the entire content of your "report" appears to be nothing but sour grapes that have not yet had the opportunity to mature.
Tell us Ricky, other than the fact that Marc Bashoor was instrumental in busting you back several years ago for your inability to manage the pre-school that KVFD really was back then and the fact that he called you out for your total lack of accountability for your antics on the fireground, what have you really got against him?
Thank God Tony Kelleher came along and cleaned up the mess you made there…I really don't even think your pals at 33 miss you anymore. Good luck Chief Bashoor.
I am reasonably certain it is not THAT Ricky Riley who is our correspondent.
Congrats Marc.
