Uh, when people say "Reach for the stars", I'm pretty sure they don't mean while using a deck gun. Fire prolly woulda gone out a lot faster with the master stream actually spraying water *on the fire!*.
And I'm sure that a spoonfull of coldfire, fireout, or whatever that stuff is called today, would have put it out in 5-10 seconds.
Was the moon an exposure?
I agree with that coldfire whatever stuff, miracle juice. Let's start the nit-picken. The guy in the left seat found the red flashing light switch and the siren and the big horn, but , from all that I could gather rerunning the clip, he couldn't find the headlignt switch or the directional lever. It doesn't matter whether it's the middle of the day or the middle of the night, put the damn headlights on ahd always use the directionals. It appeared it was deep into the dusk of the afternoon almost completley dark, you would think even if they don't use them during the day that they would have had them on then. One more thing. 4 guys walked down over the hill next to the supply line and not one of them either saw or straigthened the kink in the line.
Yeah. Cut a hole in that thing, or open a door and point the deck gun in through it… attacking the seat of the fire… or any part of it, would be good.
Building was a looser but Wow… a 30 min run and you crawl out of the cab wearing a stocking cap and bunker pants… come on man what if your rig had to get some quck exposure protection going your way behine the 8 ball…… I pray the deck gun was trying to throw water to knock down embers…. if not say it was because that is all it was good for…. Strike the Box! K
"quick exposure protection"…after a 30 minute response….yikes!
check the website howellcountynews.com for more info on the fire!
ozarkareanetwork.com also has the story.
In addition to all the negative tactical comments on this video…I would like to THANK the VOLUNTEERS that showed up to help!!! Sincerely…..at least YOU showed up to help!….many cars drove right by….but you showed up in your own cars…..with very limited resources.
Where"s the large diameter hose…. big fire … big water…. if you dont have it … call for it!!!
Tommy this towns hydrants only have plugs for two 2 1/2s they dont have 5". They had 2 other engines relay pumping to the aerial. From what I see they did a good job with what they had!
The guys showed in this clip that are putting water on the fire are not from the West Plains Fire Dept. It's from a tiny town that never sees fires nor do they have training. And the call for mutual aid was at night from what I was told and the WPFD only had time to jump in the truck and go. But for the WPFD, they got the job done! Thanks, guys!
I hope somebody uncovers the right tail/stop light assembly on that responding engine…all the switches in the world won't make them visible.
Scooter, my guys make 30+ minute responses quite often. I don't expect them to ride uncomfortably cramped, sweating in their bunker coats for that long. Usually after a 30 or more minute ride, the fire is either out or there's nothing to save anyway. At least, that's the way it is in rural America.
Anonymous, thanks for your comment about vollies. We appreciate it!
I agree with Fire21. When someone has to travel 30 minutes to respond, their main objective is to grab their gear and run. Because normally by the time they arrive, the fire is already put out.
That's the safety cover for the end of the ladders that is blocking the taillights and hopefully before they return to the home station someone will rectify that situation. Maybe the guy behind the wheel will see that when he does his 360 checking compartment doors to be sure they are closed before heading back to quarters.
