From Bill Rohrer at Newsworking:

A fire broke out around 23:00 hours at the Buffet House Chinese Restaurant at 1478 South Rt. 61 just north of Cressona.

Companies were already working at a multiple alarm factory fire at 98 Front Street in Cressona when this call came in.

Multiple companies from throughout Schuylkill, Berks and Carbon counties assisted in battling the blaze.

3 ladders were in operation (Minersville, Hamburg and Saint Clair) along with numerous large handlines and ground monitors.

The blaze burned well into the morning requiring numerous tankers from the three county area.

A major structural collapse occurs in the video around 3:17.

When the ladder crew left the roof should have cut a hole in the gable and applied the heavy stream into the attic space.

Something going on fire wise we can see around back?  Looks like an attic fire contained to the one area, couple lines inside open up and put the fire out.  They had it vented well but seemed to never go in and finsh it off.  Master Stream from the top of the Engine flowing down into a first floor window on an attic fire… Come on man WTF! … are we pre-wetting the first floor so when the roof comes in the first floor won't burn as much?  Unless I am missing something it was not a good performance!  Strike da Box! Yeh you are missing something…a 360. Then maybe you could speak with some inteligence. It was a well involved basement fire that extended through the wall s to the attic. vent holes are for????? A.Venting. B.Shooting water in the hole from a ladder pipe. C.Weekly saw test.

Looks like we had a bunch of professional volunteer observers/ street breathers/ yard shepards.

Decent vent job, but I might have tried to cut it bigger.  4×4 is the minimum for residentials.  Commercials require different tactics- bigger lines and bigger vent holes!

Units arrived to find heavy smoke conditions on division 1 with no visible fire, interior crews searched to find the seat of the fire in the basement.  Heavy fire conditions in the basement caused the majority of the first floor to collapse into the basement area. Interior crews were removed prior to continuation of collapse, as command decided to go defensive due to no longer having access to the first floor or basement area and venthilation was continued while switching to exterior operations

Good video for those learning to read smoke, lots of examples of different smoke thicknesses, color and velocity.
