Just when we think the public no longer cares about the sacrifice made by firefighters, comes a story like this.
Bella Rice Jaber was born early Tuesday morning. Her middle name is meant to honor Peabody, Massachusetts Firefighter James Rice who died while fighting a fire on December 23 at an apartment building where Bella was to live. Lisa Jaber, a nurse, attended the funeral for Firefighter Rice. Jaber and her family are in a temporary apartment and are looking for permanent housing.
More from Justin A. Rice at Boston.com:
Displaced by the fire while she was 38 weeks pregnant, Lisa Jaber said she named her baby after Rice, “because he risked his life to save our house and it just felt right. So I dedicated her name toward him and his family.”
Jaber— who said she would have been home during the fire had she not been at a prenatal doctor’s appointment — spent Christmas with her 8-year-old daughter, Jayla, in a hotel room with hundreds of donated gifts to replace the ones lost in the fire.

What a lovely way to honor FF Rice's memory! I hope it helps his grieivng family a little to know his name lives on in the Jaber family's memory in a very vivid way.
What a great gesture to honor FF Rice. This should remind all Firefighters why we do what we do. I hope things get better for Ms. Jaber and her family. They certainly deserve it.
