From KGO-TV:

Three children were saved from a fire in the East Bay (on Tuesday morning) and one had to be dropped from the second floor to escape the flames. The dramatic rescue was captured on a helmet camera worn by a firefighter. A mother lifted her child over a second-story railing and into the hands of a waiting firefighter.

Frightened and panicked neighbors could be heard screaming, calling out for firefighters to save the children trapped inside a burning apartment in the Ashland area, just outside San Leandro.

From KPIX-TV:

“She didn’t know what to do so she basically handed her child down to me,” said Anthony McAdams, an Alameda County Firefighter.

Hearing that there were more children still inside, Captain Tom Pappas rushed inside. Pappas had a helmet camera mounted to his head.

“They were in the back bedroom, tucked into the closet under a blanket scared for their lives,” said Pappas.

In total darkness, Captain Pappas grabbed a boy and pulled him to safety. Moments later, McAdams found another child who he was able to pull to safety.

Great outcome but I can't help by commenting that I noticed on several videos posted on this site, that it once again took  3 minutes from when the line was stretched to charge it. I'll assume that the first due engine had at least  500 gallons of water in their  tank that  could have easily knocked down and completely extinquish this fire. Great outcome , kudos to the brothers

First; put the camera down and go help your neighbors kids. Second; if you put the camera down, we wouldn't have to comment on how long it takes pump operators to get water. The fire service needs to go back to basics. The 95 year old guy that drives the 1947 Lafrance with 300 gallons of water WOULD have had water in less time by himself.

Well, good job going inside and searching and coming upon the children in the smoke.  Compared to brothers aacross the Bay in San Fran, there is no much happening on the fire attack with 3 minutes to put H2O on the job. Guys really need to move with more of a sence of purpose on the fireground, IMO.

@Rudedawg  There's no camera to put down.  Watch the video again, Bro.  All the cameras are helmet mounted.  Next…

Rudedawg was talking about the neighbor who was filming the fire.  He wanted the neighbor to put down his camera and go help his neighbors.  It's that video that shows it took 3:30 to get some water on the fire.

Ummm, check again, bro.   That first video is being filmed through a window from the building next door and captures the approaching sirens and arriving apparatus.
Which FF was wearing that helmet-cam??

L747–I believe Rudedawg's comment was regarding the videographer neighbor–not the helmet cams.  Which you can't argue–kids screaming, parents screaming, and you're video taping instead of getting involved?

L747, take a pause and look at the first video.  That video was being taken by the neighbor which is what rudedawg was talking about.  Next…
Anything that can help put firefighters in a better light besides all the other crap that is being dumped on us is a good thing.  Maybe helmet camera's will help get more firefighters the manpower and equipment we need, I can only dream.

Nicely put, direct and to the point. A great story and a bunch of Bull___t banter and comments about water.

Well that expains it.  I never saw the first video as it didn't load, earlier in the day.  Irritating video to watch on a few levels.

I take it the engine didn't put water on the fire right away because they couldn't confirm where the victims were located, thats my guess.
