Fire commissioner Lloyd Ayres was not available to go on camera for this story but tells over the phone the department does not have a policy to transfer injured firefighters. He also tells us firefighters can request a transfer back to their original station.

The Philadelphia Fire Commissioner really needs to try to explain some logical reasoning behind these moves. I doubt that's likely because I can think of no logical reasoning for these moves. Maybe now that Chicago Commissioner Hoff is retiring, he can teach leadership classes for the fire service because it's quite evident that some of the "leaders" in the fire service need it.
I certainly can't add to Former Chief's comments!!
Sound like a decision by a comish who never wore a hood and hasn't been in a burning building in 20 years. The hoods are good but not perfect, they do move around, you will burn your ears with one on, been there done that. Good aggressive firefighting like that done by PFD will never stop no matter how many laws they pass. I can understand some form of discipline if the member just does not use the safety equipment but to punish him/her because the equipment isn't perfect is wrong.
