Wow ! WTF I got 1.45 to get water and that does not count how long the camera was turned off. Don’t look like they knew how to pull the pre-connect. Sad very sad… basic operations. Needed to think of the extinguisher sooner instead of just flowing water. Standing 20 feet from the car WOW ! Need lots more training Strike Da Box! K

Doesn’t appear that foam was used, but with ethanol fuel additives commonly used today unless your using AR-AFFF your fighting a losing battle. We now carry extra dry chem extinguishers until we can replace our foam. Now start with the Cold-Fire comments……

I will say that using foam is great, however, not every department carries enough foam on the truck to really do much if anything at all. We carry and extra dry chem as well for that specific reason. And dang, get closer to the vehicle… maybe get a narrow fog stream goin and stick it up closer to the end of the vehicle.

Looks like that might be either a Volvo or a Saab – both cars known to be very good at what they do. They even burn well!
Seriously, help me out here guys – is it possible a slow leak in a gas tank can cause this or would fire have travelled up into such a slow leak and made the car go boom? If not a slow leak what would make a car burn like a novelty candle?

3 syllables, starts with an E….

    Can we hear ETHANOL!

Like Blue says, learn it, live it, love it. Car fires are not the same as they were 2 or 3 years ago.

Dry Chem or foam blanket is the best way to go after you knock down the burning Class A materials. As long as you have gas flowing or touching hot metal surfaces, the ethanol is going to quickly light back up.

Scooter when the vid starts you can hear the wheel chocks hit the ground and the water starts at 1.40. I know of this department and they are a busy city department and don’t get all worked up over a car fire. You might go running to the car but it looks like to me they took there time and stretched out a line. Could they have used a can or used a smaller length probably. Why don’t you keep training on you Monday morning quarterbacking. Oh and I don’t work for the department if you were wondering.

Meriden is a small city dept. Very aggressive department when it comes to structure fires. 5 engines and 1 ladder. They are fairly busy call wise and for the size of the city, they catch an awful lot of jobs. I’m fairly certain that weren’t gonna get worked up about a small car fire.

I am a retired Lieutenant from Meriden Ct.Two things I got from this video, first,Can always do something different to get a better result (remember, firefighting is not an exact science) second, If you fight fire long enough in your career, there will always be one fire that will not come out the way you would want it to. Please don’t judge the MFD by one video, This department is an extremely aggressive department with some pretty amazing firefighters and there are people who are alive today due to the more successful actions that never made it to Youtube, It just seems the fire that kicks your tail is the one that makes it. As far as a boring city, I have to say you must of lived in a cave.
