In November we told you about Kirsten Hamling who ran Fire Up Kids, the company that published the Colorado Firefighter Calendar. At that time KUSA-TV in Denver reported that Hamling was under investigation for using money for personal shopping trips and travel that firefighters and others believed was to go to the Children’s Hospital Colorado Burn Unit.
Today, the TV station reports that Hamling is facing 13 counts of theft, four counts of charitable fraud, three counts of filing a false tax return, two counts of failure to file a tax return and one count of attempt to influence a public servant. The charges indicate that Hamling took over $240,000 meant for the charity.
She turned herself in to the Glendale Police Department. She was charged Monday. Her bond is set at $10,000.
Hamling’s former employee told 9NEWS Hamling used the Fire Up For Kids bank account as her personal piggy bank, spending money for personal shopping trips and travel.
Firefighters from various agencies were interviewed on Colorado & Company, a program that airs on 9NEWS, saying they volunteered and posed for the non-profit and that all the proceeds went to children.
Hamling’s attorney told 9NEWS last fall she operated a for-profit company and could spend the money how she saw fit.
The charges allege that beginning in 2005 she used money from the nonprofit for her own personal use, including paying for personal airline tickets, hair salon charges, car repairs and her children’s private school tuition.
The charges also accuse Hamling of filing false tax returns, failing to file tax returns and providing false information to an investigator looking into the allegations, Kimbrough said.
Hamling resigned from Fired Up For Kids in September 2011.

I hope they send her to prison for 10 years.
And she probably put other Calendar Fundraisers in jepodary because the question will be asked:
Is this Legitimate fund raising?
Way not to go Loser!
