Detroit fire crews spent the overnight hours fighting about 16 fires on the east side including one that injured a firefighter.
“It has been real busy,” Captain Pat McNulty said.
The firefighter was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital, treated and released for minor injuries, McNulty said. The injury was to his head.
Multiple Detroit Fire companies are busy fighting a sudden outbreak of fires on Detroit’s east side.
Crews were battling 14 seperate structure fires by 6 a.m. Monday, and officials believe it’s arson. The fires are affecting both commercial and residential buildings.
Eleven fires sent flames and smoke into the sky early Monday morning at several buildings in the area of Chene and Ferry. Most of the buildings to burn were vacant, but one was a church and at least one had people living inside it.

Hope they catch the loser and then charge him with multiple counts of attempted murder and lock the door for life on him. Hang in there Detroit, been a tough time for you guys.
OK, so I’m watching the NBC Nightly News over the weekend with Lester Holt. And they proceed to do a story on the resurgence of Detroit. I am not kidding. They were talking about how good the climate is for “start up” companies, especially tech type companies and how conducive the atmosphere is for business there. Since I’m not there, I don’t know how accurate this story is, but, I would venture a guess that if you asked the Detroit Fire Dept., or many of the residents of Detroit, they may have a different perspective.
And the mayor just announced he’s laying off 164 FFs, apparently he doesn’t pay attention to what’s going on, what a surprise.
Just heard they want to lay off 164 firefighters……
Meanwhile in Detroit… http://www.freep.com/article/20120625/NEWS01/120625040/Detroit-to-lay-off-164-firefighters-Bing-says?odyssey=tab
What a bunch of bull. The city is going to be sorry with their decision sometimes I think these hot shot councilmen do not know what they are doing they just want the numbers to look good on paper they could care less whos job they cut. Police and fire should never be cut unless it is an absolute emergency.
David S, I’m sure it is an emergency. If they don’t lay off FF they will have to take a cut in pay, lose the limos, the mansions, the perks, parks may have to close, roads that are near to being gravel will become worse, the citizens would have to hire private contractors to haul garbage, and all the other bureaucrats will lose their jobs.
So of course this is an emergency. Why would you think that any of these other things would be better options than laying off FF?
On another note, that has to be oldest reporter still working the streets, an I wonder if angles night is as bad a devils night? Poor old fella.
Lets not forget the multi million Fire/Police HQ thats being built, a result of city leaders living in their own customized fantasy world.
