When is no helmet, no airpack on ventilation an acceptable practice? An honest question as well is; Is it acceptable to move a stick with someone on the end of it? I’ve only worked with platforms and don’t see that as being a smart move.

Yeah…lets see, no helmet, no air pack. I believe we needed more holes throughout that roof….3 2×2 holes just werent cutting it. Looked more like a roof made of swiss cheese. Basics fellas, basics! 1 maybe 2 4×4 or largers holes. Cut them and get down.

    Be safe out there

@ 6:15-ish the camera man says, “Oh man it’s getting worse”… Apparently at some point in their operations things were going good, don’t see where though. Safety safety safety. Foolish choices could have life altering effects. Think about it.

Any time civilians see fire they think it’s “worse”. The holes were doing exactly what the holes were supposed to do, he just doesn’t know that.

I’m not saying it is right or wrong to be working on the tip of a ladder with no helmet, no hood and no air pack but in my time I DID see a firefighter get crispy around the edges when the fire blew out of his vent hole AND along with no hood, no helmet, no air pack he didn’t have a coat on either. I also saw another firefighter get both of feet broken (actually smushed) when the ladder was retracted with him standing on a double rung (two sections). NEED SOME COMMON SENSE HERE MEN.

Is this guy venting? Or is this fire knocked?

YES, in all fairness I did see a platform in this video the firefighter could stand on and presumably he was. :)

How about the fact that there were two guys on the stick and no one on the turntable? These guys must be stretched to the breaking point.

Yes if you practice it and do it correctly and safely you can move the stick and even retract and extend it with someone on the tip thats why there is two fold down steps on it to make sure your feet are clear. Yeah the no helmet and no SCBA thing is an example of WTF are you doing operations and it could have easily gone wrong for that guy. All it takes is one face full of superheated gases and your going to the burn unit and are gonna end up on a ventilator so use your brains guys!!

Man oh man, tough day for platoon 2 of IFD…After already fighting a fire that morning, and than having another one after this video…3 fires in one tour, on a 90 degree day with high humidity… Next time I see him, I’ll let him know what the internet said about him, and to change his ways…

No brain no headache, looks like he slept through the important training points during the safety seminar. Guy’s like this just give more amo to the safety nazzis. I guess he must have been the HMFIC on this call as no one stopped this from going on. Better lucky than good.
