Dan Scanlan, Jacksonville.com:
Police have identified a 69-year-old woman found dead Tuesday evening at a burned home in the 2100 block of West 17th Street as Vernell Taylor Ladson.
Two other women, one injured inside the burning home and the other hurt when she attempted a rescue, are being treated at the Shands Burn Center at the University of Florida.
Firefighters called to 2100 block of West 17th Street found heavy flames consuming the front of the home.

No seatbelts on! Billy G would have a cow!
In this day and age I find it disturbing that the three I can see, can’t see the officer, no one has a seatbelt on!! I can see the guys in the back taking theirs off to pack up, but what excuse could the driver possibly have?
in our trucks we have it so that we do not take our belts of to put the pack on. We pratice and teach new members how to pack up with belts on. most trucks if set up right a pack should be able to be put on with a seat belt on. belts should stay on at all times when truck is in motion and in fact new trucks will not move unless belts are on.
I can understand the guys tryng to packup not wearing the seatbelts for the last part of the responce, but the driver? Remember we come first.
Whats up with the masks on during response and yard breathing?
Yard breathers…wtf?!?!
SEAT BELTS. Come on guys LODDs suck
When I click on the video, it comes up, “sorry this video is private” ??
bideo says its private. how do you view it?
You likely can’t now. That was done by the person who posted the video. Sorry.
Statter
We just talked to the firefighter & Im not sure why he made it private. But we are getting the raw video & will try to resubmit as soon as we can. Perhaps we can get some answers to your questions as well.
As far as the yard breather comments, this station is 1 district away from mine & are known for being very aggressive interior firefighters. I listened to the radio traffic & i can tell you 3 people were pulled from this house. 2- original occupants and 1-person who went inside to check on the elderly victims. I wasnt there to testify but from the radio traffic multiple Eng. & Ladder Co. made 2 saves & gave at least another a chance.
Like i sai we are gonna try & re-post so stand by, I’ll make sure Dave gets the skinny for you guys.

Thanks Scott.
haaaa video down video down LoL sad I missed it
That sucks the video is private now
I suspect this crew was breaking SOPs with their failure to wear seat belts and now realize they are in trouble with the chief. Oops, pulled the video too late
is it going to come back?
What’s with all of the negative comments? Apparently these Brother’s got the job done!! Worrying about a damn seat belt when there are lives to be saved…i’m sure these Brother’s know what they are doing. I’m certain most of these comments are those wishing they were on aggressive rigs, in aggressive stations, and on aggressive departments. I’d rather watch the video, and commend them on what they did accomplish when lives are at risk, rather than trying to become “popular” by appearing intelligent speaking about safety critiques. We have plenty of “safety” talks going on in our profession these days, how about we commend our own when they are doing the job we were originally tasked to do? Just a freaking thought!!
Great job, Brother’s for an apparent job well done!!
Sean are you a new hire, go gettem’, no mask wearing, smoke eaten’ no seat belt wearin’ fireman? Here is one example of why to wear seat belts.

I don’t agree with your statement towards Sean criticizing him of being a “go gettem” no mask wearin smoke eaten no seatbelt wearin firemen. And the video that you add has no relevance towards that statement. After watching your video which I have seen before, our dept shows it for evoc training. This video shows nothing more than very poor driver training and apparatus knowledge and nothing more. They were new to driving that type of truck and obviously were traveling extremely too fast for that turn which also was a red light. This has nothing to do with “go getters”. firemen with knowledge and safety and a “go getter” attitude are the ones who save lives. There is absolutely nothing safe about our job. We know this when we sign up that we are signing up for dangerous stuff. So I encourage the “go getter” mentality as long as you do the training and intake the knowledge.
Hello. I am the firefighter who posted this video. First off I would like to state we are a very aggressive fire dept. our territory is in the downtown “very dense” are of Jacksonville with multiple stations within a 2 miles apart. We had reports enroute to the fire that multiple victims were trapped. Reading some of the comments and criticism from “fellow brother firemen” on here makes our crew and the fellow crews that responded to this call alittle upset at the lack of support. We average 1-2 house fires every shift we are in no way rookies on fire scenes. One of the questions is why our masks are on in the cab. The answer is our response times anywhere from 45secs to 3mins our masks are on so we can rapidly exit the cab and enter the house to save the victims. Kneeling down outside of the burning house putting your mask on is wasting prescious time while a victim or your brother firemen calling a mayday inside. All things aside because I know many of these comments are just wanting confrontation. We saved 2 women from this fire. People say stupid move with no seatbelts but last time I checked running in a burning building isn’t the smartest choice either. We are very big on safety in our department. But aside from thatmy number is 904-813-9553 feel free to call me anytime and anyone is welcome to ride with us and see how an aggressive dept works
We are not hiding anything that we did from removing the footage. We are editing out the audio of the family of the victims out of respect to them.
Well said Josh keep up the good work dont take all the comments too heart, most of the posting have well intentions towards new ideas/methods this is what we do learn from each other
Criticizing will not change what happened. And it easy to do when you’re not the wone taking action. We should have respect for our firemens and police officers they risk there lives for us.
@Josh you mention that running into a burning house isn’t the smartest choice either. I believe you’re saying it wasn’t a good idea to go in a burning house without the proper gear. It was a brave move that the person made out of love and concern for the people on the inside of the home. As a fireman you do it because it’s your duty and they did it because they felt it was their duty.
I know it’s easy to get upset when people make remarks that are offensive but sometime it’s not worth making a comment. As a citizen, I appreiciate what you’ll do to protect & save us. Keep up the good work.
Now for you home owners with burgular bars, it may be time to get a security/alarm system in your home. Homes are easier to get into in the case of a fire, when they don’t have burgular bars. I know you want to protect yourselves and your property. Make sure you have insurance (homeowners & personal), pray for protection and hope for the best outcome. Items can be replaced but life can’t.
It is in fact not a good idea to go in a house fire without proper gear. But bottom line what I mean by my comment is simple. Their is nothing smart about going in a burning building “proper gear” or no gear. Our gear helps us withstand the elements and hazards but besides that it’s not a normal action. It’s human nature to flee from harm. The select few that go against the hazards in order to save a life is our passion. It is dangerous. If it was smart or simple or easy then everybody would do our job.
