Video from Dylan195260 of a fire Sunday morning around 6:00 AM in the 2600 block of Route 11B in Bangor, New York (Franklin County). One firefighter felt ill at the scene and was treated and released from Alice Hyde Medical Center.
Ashleigh Livingston, PressRepublican.com:
There were “flames coming out of the back side,” Bangor Fire Chief Jerry Dumas said.
Dumas said firefighters initially tried to attack the blaze from the interior of the two-story, wood-frame structure but were unable to continue because of the progression of the fire.
Instead, crews switched to a defensive approach, battling the flames from the exterior of the home.

That looked like a really good attempt at an interior attack, it was being effective for awhile. Not sure why it failed. I’m assuming there was a limited water supply, don’t know if that came into play. Unfortunately, once you’re forced to go defensive, the fire is able to move into places you can’t access, and things usually go south from there, just like it did here. Looked to me like they made a valiant effort but just couldn’t keep up. All these observations, of course, based on 5 minutes of non-continuous video.
Another successful fire attack video on Statter 911. Where no firefighters were hurt, but most of the building was.
Please tell me this was some kind of live fire training?… even if your going defensive how about a little more aggressive work on the pipe and get up to the windows, hit and keep moving… Strike Da Box! K
Great effort by a relatively small number of personnel.
HINT: You guys needed more water
Was this video shot before the invention of SCBA?
Quit your griping and learn from it! Probably the best video I have ever seen from the standpoint of demonstrating steam conversion. You have to assume that poor water supply probably dictated the number and size of lines they could flow. You work with what you have. Get up into the windows? Really? Ever hear of a collapse zone? Once you set up defensive you commit to defensive. I am not arguing against moving back to offensive at some point, but while you’re defensive you need to fully take on that stance. Great job in my opinion!
Bangor is a rural community in one of the more rural counties in NYS. Little more than a wide spot in the road. Odds are they were behind the eight ball before they ever left the station.
Water supply can definitely be an issue out in the sticks.
DW – using an undersized line because of limited water supply does not make sense. An undersized line wastes water. And I bet all of us have heard of a collaspe zone.Generally these old style frame homes pretty much burn down before they fall down.”Defensive” firefighting can include sticking a line in the window.
Love the music in the begining…..then show that video..OH BOY
