Video from nofire504 as firefighters go to work Firday morning at a building that has been vacant since Hurricane Katrina.
The 3-alarm fire that ripped through an abandoned Mid-City building early Friday morning (March 15) is under investigation, a spokesman for the New Orleans Fire Department said. The two-story building near the intersection of Bienville and North Broad streets had been scheduled for demolition Friday and with no signs of any utilities running in the building at the time of the blaze, investigators were unsure what might have caused the fire, said NOFD Assistant Superintendent Timothy McConnell.
“With no power to the building and no gas to the building, it’s always suspicious at that point,” McConnell said. Investigators were on the scene trying to determine what caused the fire, although no one is considered a suspect at the time, McConnell said.

What happened to the big water off the first due? It’s for more than just a supply line…….
I’m curious what the pressure problems were besides kinks in the supply line and kinks in the hand lines…and firefighters standing around watching it all happen.
But then, I wasn’t there, so I’m only commenting on what I observed from a several-minute video.
I don’t understand. Why not big water for a big fire to knock it down?
I agree, big fire = big water.
At least they were quick in getting handlines out…small or not, still quick.
Pathetic!
I love the brotherhood on here. I thought they had a pretty quick setup and knockdown myself, but obviously, you guys are experts. Alot of people think FDNY is the best, but alot of their videos don’t portray excellence up to all of your standards.
You nailed it Sally. It takes the courage of a real old time fireman to log on under a non-discript nick-name and call ANYBODY pathetic. Whether you agree or like the tactics, doesn’t matter. The more important thing is that they had the courage to respond that night and our friend “Waheid” still has his keyboard. Own your actions and your comments, good and bad.
