I imagine a fire at a nudist camp requires some special tactics and techniques, if for no other reason than trying to keep the firefighters focused on putting out the fire. Such potential was there on Tuesday in Michigan when a camper caught fire at the Forest Hills Nudist Club and Campground. My only hope was that I would beat Firegeezer to the helmet-cam video. But my vision of what this could have been was dashed because the people at the camp wanted to show respect to the firefighters (read below). You call that respect?
Maybe they should let the firefighters be the judge of what is respectful or not. I am guessing there is a good chance they will be seeing a lot more of those firefighters. I am thinking the facility needs some extensive pre-planning that may take a couple of visits. And please, when they return, be as disrespectful as you like.
Investigators worked to uncover the cause of a small fire that broke out at a campsite Tuesday afternoon at the Forest Hills Club Nudist Club and Campground.
The fire was reported around 4:30 p.m. in a camper, said Terry, the camp’s office manager who declined to give his last name. The camp is located just west of Saranac along the Grand River.
“One of the neighbors had a fire, some smoke coming from their camper, and they were able to get out,” Terry said. “Everyone is fine.”
“Most everybody was dressed when the fire department got here, out of respect,” he said. “When vendors come on the grounds, like UPS or delivery trucks, or vendors, out of respect for being close up, I stay covered. We’re not trying to force this on anybody else. We have a place where we do what we do. We respect the surrounding community. We don’t walk down the street or have parades.”
He added between 20 and 30 people typically make weekend visits to the 65-campsite resort, which has been in Sanilac for 56 years.
“There’s a lot of reasons to put on clothing, not just to cover up, but for protection,” Terry explained. “If you’re out with a chainsaw, cutting lumber…”
