Video above and below from Michael Jordan from an apartment fire on Saturday in Raleigh, North Carolina. At 4:18 in the video above you will see an explosion in the attic that’s being described by the Raleigh Fire Department as a backdraft.
A large fire tore through rooftops of a building at Camden Crest Apartments on Manor Valley Court off Lynn Road in Raleigh Saturday evening.
A neighbor told WNCN the complex has both smoke alarms and a sprinkler system. Residents said the sprinkler system did not activate.
Residents believe the fire started on the third floor. One person could be seen being treated on a stretcher by emergency responders.
Aliana Ramos, NewsObserver.com:
No residents were injured, but two Raleigh firefighters were hospitalized with elevated heart rates due to exertion, said Division Chief Ronny Mizell.
The 30-unit building was “fully involved,” with flames coming through the roof, the first firefighters on the scene reported.
“I’ve never seen one spread this fast,” Mizell said. “It was just a column of smoke and fire in that top floor. It actually backdrafted, and there was an explosion in the attic.”
About 70 firefighters were called to blaze at the Camden Crest Apartments, at 5024 Manor Valley Court, just after 6:30 p.m.
Fire officials believe the fire started in the back of the building and say the flames spread quickly because the four-story apartment building was made of wood and vinyl. No one was injured.
