Dave, just a quick note about your use of RIT in place of RIC as is described in NIMS and what we teach here at teh National Fire Academy. I realize that there are numerous FD's that still use the term RIT, but NIMS does not recognize RIT, only RIC and I would hope that you would help try and change teh terminology so maybe at some point long after I retire probably, we will all be on the same page.

Thanks for all the hard work you do, we all apprecaite it.

Great coverage of the old Knickerbocker collapse...Further study of the Washington Post archives reveals how 3 C&P telephone operators were later given awards for their initiative in getting help from 1 lone caller; they in effect formed a pre-911 system and got as much help started onsite as possible. One 52 year-old DCFD chief was a hero there and was awarded a retirement for years of injuries that caught up with him. One relative of mine was killed there who was responsible for making D.C. the leader in sales of the new Dodge Brothers car per capita in the U.S. The firms name was Semmes-Kneessi, with one Semmes brother who was there that night and barely escaped. Howard Kneessi, V.P. of the firm was killed. E.B. Semmes and Howard Kneessi each married 1 of 2 sisters; their maiden name was Dodge - no relation to the Dodge Brothers car company which preceded Chrysler ownership.

Dave,

Re: DeKalb, GA death (1/24). Any chance of getting the tape of the 2nd 911 call(s). I'd like to know what info was transmitted. I've read (can't remember where) that the caller (a neighbor) was told that the FFs were already on scene, and didn't really arrive for another 15-20 minutes. If so, that would make it a real dispatch issue.

Thanks.

Hello Dave. Great site. I visit at least once a day. I was looking for the "Bored Firefighters In The Snow Video" on the web. I use videos like this when I instruct Officer classes. We discuss the stupidty, safety, what to do as an Officer, etc.

Anyways, I found this video from two years ago. It appears to be similiar to the deleated video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3kiW7YEK9A

Thought you might like it. Thanks again. Enjoy your snow! Stay safe. Henry

Tonight the Manassas City Council directed the City Manager to look into the feasibility of dis-banding the City's new Fire and Rescue Department and merging all fire and rescue services with Prince William County. This is to be done before the City Council will take any further action on the proposed change to the city ordinance that is currently under debate.

Don't miss out on this story Dave!

Fire 21 & Capt Kelly,

If you are seeing it with a red background behind the type it isn't loading properly with your computer browser. Check it on another computer. The blog itself (where the words are) is black and red typface on a white background. There is a red background that, if loading properly, should only be seen on the sides and top.

I have seen what you are talking about, when the computer is loading slowly the whole bacground may start red and it is unreadable.

Again check it on another computer and check the settings on your browser. Let me know. Thanks.
