Above is a brief video provided by the Galveston (TX) Fire Department of a house fire Thursday at 3414 Ball Street as an evacuation is ordered. Below is a description of the fire from Interim Fire Chief Mike Wisko along with video from Galveston County Daily News:

First alarm units included Engine 1, 2, 5 Ladder 1, Squad 5, the Safety Captain & the Battalion Chief. Upon arrival units found a two story wood frame house (3414) heavily involved on both floors with an exposure on the B side (3416). An interior attack was initiated on both 3414 & 3416. A primary search was initiated in both structures and an exposure line was placed between 3414 & 3416. Crews inside 3414 encountered heavy fire which hampered the search.

They attempted to access the second floor and received the order to evacuate. A RIT crew was entering the front door just to see if they could aid the interior crew when the interior crew exited on their own. A second alarm was requested immediately after the change in strategy. There were ten occupants in the house at 3414 Ball when the fire started and all self evacuated. One was treated for minor injures. Additionally, one Firefighter was treated for dehydration.

While looking for additional video from this fire I came across the two clips below from Gregg Riley showing the Galveston Fire Department of long ago. There are a variety of fires and other scenes. It’s well worth watching.

Three parts of video with radio traffic by James Botham of a house fire at 2416 Bryant Avenue S. in Minneapolis, Minnesota on April 29. At 8:30 into Part 1 is the first report from Engine 17 on the interior that they had lost water. Water is restored but then Ladder 11 reports that the primary line and back-up line on the second floor have no pressure. This is followed by a report from RIT of pumping issues with Engine 17. This conversation continues into Part 2 when the evacuation is ordered at about 1:15.

KSTP-TV:

Firefighters battled a two-alarm house fire in Minneapolis Monday on the 2400 block of Bryant Avenue South.

Officials say no one was injured in the blaze, which shot flames from the second and third floors of a three-story house.

No one was home when the fire was first reported at 12:03 p.m.

KARE-TV:

First responders were sent to 2416 Bryant Ave South shortly after 12:00 p.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke billowing from the second and third floors of the large home. Unconfirmed reports say the fire started on a deck and soon jumped to other parts of the building.

Firefighters attempted an interior attack but were soon evacuated due to a heavy volume of fire. At that point a second alarm was called and crews concentrated on an exterior attack.

Pictures by J.D. Brooke from PhillyFireNews.com

Video from phillyfirenews of a house fire today on Reiffs Mill Road in Ambler Boro, Pennsylvania (Montgomery County). While the evacuation tones and airhorns are heard two separate times on the video, the audio appears to be the same evacuation from two different angles, even though the video shows some different action going on the second time your hear the evac tones (indicating the sound is dubbed pn one of them). J.D. Brooke reposted this video with the original audio at the 3:14 mark instead of the earlier evac order being dubbed in.

As for the evacuation, it appears not everyone came out. The conversation from firefighters questioning the water still being put on the attic fire from inside indicates that it was being applied via the first floor. There are also firefighters being told to go in and help someone out who was still inside. It’s unclear if this was related to the injured firefighters PhillyFireNews.com reports about below:

The fire extended into numerous void spaces on the second floor. Several firefighters were caught in a flash over on the second floor. Command evacuated the dwelling due to heavy fire conditions. Exterior lines were placed in to operations. Two Firefighter were transported to the hospital. One with burns to his ears, second with a laceration.

It’s been a while since we’ve run something from our friend Paul Bassett (OLDIRONSIDESWAY)) in New Jersey. This time he does double duty with a helmet-cam rolling while he shoots pictures of the May 1 fire at 585 Hoboken Road in Carlstadt (Bergen County). The airhorns start sounding on this one at 4:43.

Rebecca Baker, North Jersey.com:

The blaze started in the basement of the three-story building at 585 Hoboken Road shortly after 8 a.m., fire officials said. The flames shot through the windows and up the exterior walls of the wood-frame structure, forcing smoke through the roof.

It took more than two hours for dozens of firefighters from Carlstadt and surrounding departments to bring the blaze under control. Assistant Chief Rob Popejoy of the Carlstadt Fire Department said the fire remained under investigation on Wednesday afternoon but did not appear suspicious. Peter Melchionne said authorities told him that the cause was likely electrical, and that the fire started in or near the laundry room.

Video from kupar2095 of a house fire Tuesday afternoon in Camas, Washington’s Summit Oaks subdivision.

Emily Gillespie, The Columbian:

The fire was reported at 12:40 p.m. Camas-Washougal Fire Chief Nick Swinhart said arriving firefighters used a defensive attack on the blaze — instead of trying to enter the burning house, they used hoses to spray water from the outside.

“We just dump a lot of water on it until we can get it out,” he said. “This fire just got too much of a head start on us.”

Using several hoses and a water cannon, firefighters sprayed the sides of the house, using a shield of water to protect neighboring residences. Houses next door stand about 10 feet away from the flame-engulfed residence.

“Sometimes it’s a helpless feeling for us too, but it’s all we can do,” Swinhart said.

Video by Zach Odegard of two single-family homes burned in Dallas, Oregon yesterday morning.

Joce DeWitt, StatesmanJournal.com:

Crews from the Dallas Fire Department responded to a home on the 400 block of SW Washington Street around 9 a.m. Thursday. The only occupant of the house had discovered the fire and tried to extinguish it but was unsuccessful. The resident left the building before firefighters arrived.

By the time fire units arrived the roof of the home had partially collapsed.

The home next door had a low clearance so firefighters evacuated its occupants, none of which suffered any injury. Two firefighters reportedly suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Two fires in the same house in East St. Louis, IL. The fires were about a year apart. The first fire features two probies. The video is from bobbybushae, our sponsor FireVideo.net’s YouTube channel. We have a video player in the right hand column of this site featuring these videos. Below is the description with the video:

This is a 2 part video. The 1st part is of an occupied 1 story house fire with smoke showing / fire venting from rear bedroom. We had 2 probationary firefighters with us that day and WOW was that fun. Pass devices going off and getting blasted in the face with an open nozzle was fun. But we ALL have to learn at the beginning! The probies made a quick stop and all was good. Until 1 year later the same house came in and it was going a little better this time, especially thru the attic. We were going to make the same push thru the front but the heat conditions were deteriorating by the second and being it was a vacant house now with fire thru the roof in some spots, we knocked it down from the outside and then went in. No one was injured but this was our 4th structure fire within our 24 hr shift….we were beat. The cameras used were the Fire Cam MINI HD and the Fire Cam 1080 Fire Helmet Cameras from www.firevideo.net

Video from Kevin O’Toole of a fire Saturday in Prince George’s County, Maryland with an initial report of someone trapped in the basement. The evacuation of the home is ordered at about 4:08 in the video.

From PGFD Chief Spokesman Mark Brady:

Fire/EMS units responded to this fire at 4:45 pm and arrived at 9317 Kimbark Avenue, a 1-story with basement single family home, with fire showing.  There were about 40 firefighter/medics working on the scene of this incident that required about 30 minutes to knock down.  First arriving firefighters advanced hose lines into the home and were conducting a search of the basement for an unaccounted occupant.  Fire conditions continued to intensify and the Incident Commander ordered all firefighters to evacuate.  The unaccounted occupant was soon located at a neighbors home and was not injured.  Firefighters regrouped and re-entered the home and extinguished the fire.  Fire Investigators believe this fire may have started on the rear exterior of the home and extended to the interior.  The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.  Fire Investigators determined an estimated fire loss at $75,000. The Citizen Services Unit assisted the displaced occupants.

Video above from vicsan191 and video below by FortWhenTea and Tom DeMatteis of a fire Saturday in Waterbury, Connecticut that left one man dead and injured three firefighters.

Shawn Beals & Crystal Hall, CTNow.com:

One person is dead as a result of a fire that heavily damaged two three-story homes at Tremont and Sudbury streets on Saturday afternoon, officials said.

The victim lived on the third floor, and firefighters were able to get him out of the house as it was burning, Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Ayotte said. The man was taken to Waterbury Hospital, where he died, he said.

Ayotte said three firefighters were injured, and were treated at Watebury Hospital.

“There is a lot of damage to both buildings. They’re pretty well gutted,” Ayotte said. “The fire had a head start. Both houses were pretty well involved by the time we got there.”

Laraine Weschler, Republican-American:

Seven families, including 12 adults and three children, were displaced when two houses on Sudbury Street caught fire Saturday, according to a spokesman for the American Red Cross.

The fire also killed 47-year-old Victor Rivera, who died in a third-floor apartment in one of the houses.

Video from KPaul77 aboard Truck 3-1 from the Richland Fire Department at a house fire on Tuesday afternoon at 105 11th Street in Windber, Pennsylvania (Somerset County). Here’s the description with the video:

Truck 3-1 officer Sgt. Kyle Paul. 2nd due truck and 3rd arriving unit. Truck crew was originally assigned to open up and search for stairs leading to division 2. Due to lack of water supply crews were evacuated out until a water source was established. Truck crew entered a second time and vented division 2.

Melanie Gillespie, WJAC-TV:

“The fire was already ahead of us, which made it very hot inside; which made it more difficult for crews. So, we had to have a lot of back lines to back the other guys up,” Windber Fire Chief Aaron Cicon said.

Two firefighters were sent to the hospital for heat exhaustion and dehydration as a result of being on the roof.

“Everybody’s not used to the heat again. People went down pretty fast. It took two alarms to get enough guys here to cover, and because of where we’re at here, people aren’t too close so we had to pull from pretty far distances,” Cicon said.

The chief called the fire fast-moving and told 6News it started in the kitchen.

Extensive video with radio traffic from homer218 of a two-alarm fire yesterday at 985 Garrison Avenue in Teaneck, New Jersey. The fire was originally reported in the basement and extended to the attic. Evacuation order given around 11:15 in the video.

Myles Ma, NJ.com:

Firefighters responded to the house at about 1:15 p.m. and were greeted by heavy fire and smoke, Joe Berchtold, a battalion chief with the Teaneck Fire Department, said.

Berchtold said the fire had “a good head start” by the time firefighters arrived.

Berchtold did not reveal whether anyone was injured in the fire.

Noah Cohen, Teaneck Patch:

Authorities said there were no reports of serious injuries. The blaze sent thick smoke into the area and triggered electrical pops from an outlet, but was quickly contained by Teaneck crews.

Garrison Avenue was closed in the area while crews continued to work at the scene around 4 p.m. The fire was reported around 1 p.m.

Additional coverage from Firegeezer.com

Above is video by a neighbor (meanscreen) at what turned into a five-alarm fire in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh yesterday morning. At the beginning of the clip is the explosion described by residents of the building. A newspaper article calls it a backdraft but other news sites say the explosion is still under investigation. Below is another view of the blast.

Liz Navratil, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

When smoke began pouring out of a utility closet Friday morning in the  Oakland apartment building where Charlie Koch lived, he began pounding on his  neighbors’ doors.

He grabbed a flashlight, headed toward the stairs and tried to help guide  people out of the building. They made it out moments before a backdraft caused  an explosion that sent bricks flying off of the building and onto the roof of  another complex nearby.

It was “very lucky,” Pittsburgh arson Detective Michael Burns said, that no  one was injured when the five-alarm blaze broke out in the basement ceiling of  519 Zulema St., where there appeared to be an electrical problem. Detective  Burns said he doubts charges will be filed in connection with the fire.

WTAE-TV:

Detective Mike Burns, who  works on the city’s arson squad, said there was an “electrical malfunction”  where the fire started between the basement and the first floor.  The  flames spread through the wood frame structure and two shafts that extended  through the height of the building.

The cause of the fire is  under investigation. “I have received reports that they heard a boom or an  explosion, but I can’t confirm that,” Jones said.

Chris Togneri, triblive.com:

None of the tenants in the six-unit, 15-bedroom building was injured, Pittsburgh fire Chief Darryl E. Jones said. One firefighter cut his hand but the injury was minor, Jones said.

The roof collapsed into the building’s third floor and  caused major damage, Jones said.

Firefighters cleared apartments on the first and  second floors, then “took a defensive position,” Jones said, explaining that  they could no longer save the building and instead focused on preventing the  fire from spreading to neighboring homes.

It begins with sirens and airhorns sounding, a lot of fire on the second floor and firefighters escaping via a ladder to the window of the one room on the second floor that isn’t burning.

More from FirefighterNation.com

More video and fireground audio from Don Murtha III (murthad02). This is from a fire early this morning in a vacant commercial building at 1655 Genesee Street in Buffalo, New York. Pay close attention to the radio transmissions on arrival. This is a building that was known to firefighters due to pre-planning and it paid off when portions of the building came down early in the operation. The officer of Engine 31 went on the scene immediately announcing this would be a defensive operation and then explained why in a radio transmission to the responding chief:

Engine 31: “Chief we are not going to enter. It’s marked ‘vacant’, ‘dangerous’. It’s already got a couple of collapse issues”.

WIVB-TV:

The vacant structure on Genesee and Doat Streets is a very large building, but one that firefighters already had done their homework on. Fire crews were able to get to the scene very quickly and went right into defensive efforts.

The building was pre planned by firefighters. Right away they knew the potentially dangerous conditions of the structural integrity of the building and went about fighting the fire accordingly. Not long after, a large section of the former manufacturing building came down, but no one was hurt.
