This was uploaded to YouTube today (Sunday) by george cribbs and is quite interesting. It is a two-alarm fire at 914 Kensington Avennue in Buffalo, New York from April 26, 1998. It begins with sirens and airhorns sounding, a lot of fire on the second floor and firefighters escaping via a ladder to the window of the one room on the second floor that isn’t burning.

The Mirror:

The Russian emergency service worker was trying to rescue a child from a flat fire when he was struck on the head by the snow.

It knocked him backwards and despite being clearly dazed he managed to hang on to the ladder until a fellow firefighter came to his aid.

The footage shows a colleague passing over him to grab hold of the toddler and take him to safety.

These clips are from  and BostonFireVideo.com of a fire early this morning at 62-64 Quint Avenue in the Allston section of Boston, Massachusetts.

Alli Knothe & Dan Adams, Boston Globe:

A woman leaped from the third floor of an apartment building in Allston to escape a five-alarm blaze early this morning and landed on a fire lieutenant, according to officials. The three-story white wood building at 62-64 Quint Ave. was destroyed in the fire, to which firefighters responded at about 6:15 a.m., according to the Boston Fire Department. Six residents were transported to local hospitals, as well as the lieutenant. A man also jumped from the second floor and a few residents were being treated for smoke inhalation.

Steve Annear, BostonInno.com:

(Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve) MacDonald said nine residents were displaced and six were sent to the hospital on Saturday morning, including a woman who jumped from the third floor window, bounced off of the first-floor rear entrance roof and then landed on a Fire Lieutenant at the scene of the heavy fire. “Before the ladder was in position, she jumped,” he said. Both the victim and the fire official were transported to the hospital, according to MacDonald.

John Zaremba, Boston Herald:

The woman is in critical condition, said Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald. The firefighter was also hospitalized, he said.

The woman leapt from the rear of the burning three-story on Quint Avenue as firefighters were extending a rescue ladder. She landed on a pitched roof, then rolled off onto one of the firefighters, MacDonald said.

Another man inside leapt from a second-floor window, MacDonald said. The occupants were not identified, but MacDonald said they appeared to be in their 20s.

CBC:

Emergency crews responded to 511 Kent Street just before 7 p.m. Monday after people spotted the blaze. The building, which has a sign outside reading Arlington Bed and Breakfast, is a rooming house.

They also rescued one man, 47, who was trapped on a balcony. He suffered minor smoke inhalation and was transported to hospital as a precaution.

CTV:

Ten people have nowhere to stay after an intentionally-set fire at a central Ottawa bed and breakfast Monday night.

When they arrived they said the deck and back of the house were on fire, with flames coming through the roof.

Neighbours said a 47-year-old man was trapped on a balcony for about 15 minutes before he could be rescued and taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.

1310News.com:

The blaze completely gutted the building, and damaged neighbouring homes, several bicycles and a car parked in the alley behind the building.

“Investigators eventually managed to get into the residence and they were able to confirm that it was an incendiary fire,” Ottawa Fire spokesperson Marc Messier tells 1310News. “So Ottawa police arson unit has been called in and they are taking the lead on this investigation.”

Messier says the fire started in a second floor hallway.

MetroNews.ca:

Ottawa fire service spokesman Marc Messier said the fire started on the second floor of the building in a hallway and spread to the exterior before moving up to the third floor and attic.

When firefighters were called smoke was billowing from the rear of the two-and-a-half storey multi-unit complex and people were reportedly trapped.

Must see video: Determined Detroit firefighter makes roof despite fall from ladder & almost losing it on the second attempt.

Nothing like determination. A Detroit firefighter trying to make the roof with a ground ladder on a front porch rides it down after the ladder pops out from under him. He picks himself up and tries again. The ladder starts to slip a second time, but he recovers and then has some difficulty securing footing on the steep pitch of the roof. But he makes it.

WXYZ-TV says this happened at Lantz and Russell Streets on Detroit's east side.

Video: Master stream knocks ladder off of roof at Minneapolis house fire. Firefighter slightly hurt.

At about 1:40 in this video (shot by Amy Koppel) of a multi-family home burning in Minneapolis it appears a master stream knocks a ladder off the roof onto the D side of the building. It is difficult to see. The description with the video says one firefighter was hit in the head. KMSP-TV reports:

One firefighter was injured when water pressure from the hose knocked a ladder on top of him. He is expected to be okay. No other injuries were reported.

Below is earlier video from the fire on 1st Avenue near East 25th Street in the Whittier neighborhood. The fire was reported around 1:00 PM. Here's more from KMSP-TV:

Emergency crews said the fire started in the basement and worked its way up through the walls until it got into the attic. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it's believed to be electrical.
