Firefighters Save Their Own Lieutenant

STATter 911 is starting to hear details of a story with a very happy ending in Fairfax County. According to sources familiar with the incident, the crew from Rescue 11 was in the middle of PT on Saturday. They were out for a run in Huntley Meadows Park. The crew had apparently separated a bit during the run. That’s when one of the firefighters came across his lieutenant on the ground in cardiac arrest.

The rest of the crew heard the call on the radio and ran over with the EMS equipment. The AED advised a shock. According to the sources, a combination of two shocks, CPR and finally a pericardial thump brought the lieutenant back. I am told that later in the day he was sitting up in bed and talking.
