1:00 p.m. EDT update: TFD has scheduled a news conference at 2:00 p.m. CDT to discuss the death of Captain Cox. WIBW-TV says it will stream the news conference on its website.
Details are still coming in about the fire at 6058 SW 27th St. in Topeka, KS. A Topeka TV station identifies the dead firefighter as Captain Anthony “Tony” P. Cox. He was a 21-year veteran of the Topeka Fire Department.
The fire was discovered shortly around 6:20 p.m. Monday, in a two-story building at the Villa West Apartments. Topeka TV stations report that Captain Cox went down not long after two rescues were made and the primary search of the building was completed.
A TV station reports this is Topeka’s first firefighter LODD since the early 1900s.

Eastern Shore Fire

Firefighters around Stevensville, MD in Queen Anne’s County are busy this morning. Reports of fire through the roof of a commerical building at 180 Marine Academy Drive. The map puts it almost on the water, just south of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Earlier I could see some smoke from one of the traffic cameras near the bridge.
