Hazmat in MA: One person suffered burns and 29 others were checked out after a chemical explosion Monday in Attleboro. Excerpts from BostonHerald.com:
Workers at Stern-Leach Co., which makes gold and silver alloys, caused the minor explosion when they tried to mix sodium cyanide and hydrogen peroxide solutions totaling about 2.5 gallons under a fume hood, said Ed Coletta, a spokesman for the state Department of Environmental Protection.
Fire Capt. Tim Birch said a 55-year-old man from Johnston, R.I., was taken to the intensive care unit at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, suffering from burns to the upper torso, head and face area.
