A fire in a 25,000 square foot warehouse burned in Pompano Beach Monday evening. Firefighters were concerned about chemicals and propane tanks stored in the building. The building houses a number of businesses, including a sheet metal shop.

Here is the story from WFOR-TV:

A fire tore through a Pompano Beach warehouse Monday, destroying the building and three businesses inside. A moving supply company, a metal distributor and a metal machine shop were affected by the blaze.

Firefighters fought the fire defensively at the warehouse located at the 1400 Block of SW 28th Avenue. The building said KAM Distribution on the outside; inside the 25 thousand square foot warehouse were several propane tanks, in addition to other items. Witnesses heard several explosions.

The owner told CBS4 Reporter Carey Codd she left just before 5:30 p.m. Monday evening and everything was fine. 12 minutes later, she got a call that the building was on fire. The fire burned for hours.

Rick Grosse works next door and feels for the employees of the three companies. “You try to do the best to maintain a safe facility but sometimes something happens and there’s gonna be a few people without jobs tomorrow.”

We’re told the owner does have insurance. No injuries have been reported so far. Investigators are trying to figure out what caused the fire.
