From USA Today.com:

The sheriff in Milwaukee, Wis., wants to fire a 911 dispatcher who is accused of hanging up on a woman who called to report that her boyfriend was beating her up.

“The experienced dispatcher should have known that you don’t hang up on people because they are unable to articulate the kind of help they need,” Sheriff David Clarke says, according to the Journal-Sentinel. “There is no excuse for this. I will not tolerate it and I am demonstrating that. 911 dispatchers operate with no margin for error. They all know this. I’m disgusted by what took place.”

He asked the local personnel board to get rid of the 26-year veteran 911 operator.

But Don Busche tells WISN-TV that he didn’t disconnect the woman. “We use shock statements to bring people around to talk to us. She hung up before I was able to say, ‘Ma’am, you have to give us your address,’” Busche tells the station. WISN-TV says the woman eventually contacted the police department.
