Quick takes
Starting the morning with a laugh: In our effort to try to amuse you in these difficult times we give you one of the most famous descriptions of a safari to Africa. I hadn’t seen this in a while, but came across the video while doing research for the next story. It is Groucho Marx as Captain Jeffrey T. Spalding in the 1930 movie Animal Crackers. Click here. (For more silliness this morning, check out this unrelated item from FireGeezer.)
Now for the serious stuff: We have a description of a more recent trip to Africa from Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson. He was on an economic safari, trying to bag some business for the county.
The trip has had some mystery and criticism surrounding it since it comes at a time when there is both a two-week furlough and a travel ban for county employees. Johnson answers his critics head-on. He is unapologetic and defends the trip in an interview with 9NEWS NOW reporter Scott Broom. Click here to read and watch the story.
What’s in a number?: When that number is 33, it brings to mind a both a football legend who died last night, and a fire company that some might say has reached legendary status. And there is an apparent connection between Slingin’ Sammy Baugh and Kentland VFD. Read the details.
Lawsuits over cuts: IAFF Local 22 in Philadelphia filed suit in two separate courts yesterday in an effort to halt firehouse closing due to budget cuts. The union says the cuts jeopardize lives. Read more.
Fire company responds, sues, takes home money: A Pennsylvania fire company was able to recover $23,000 from an insurance company to pay for its response when a truck crashed into three homes. Click here for the details.
