And now we know the rest of the story: An update on the Metro rescue at the Inaguration.

Watch video from Metro rescue

We told you earlier in the day about a 68-year-old Nashville woman who fell off the Metro platform at Gallery Place in DC Tuesday morning. It was one of the busier stations in the area of the Inauguration activities on a day that Metro had record ridership.

What I didn’t know when I shot the video above is that this could have been a much different story if it were not for a police officer from Houston who was in town to assist Metro Transit Police.

Houston Metro Police Officer Elliott Swainson rushed to the aid of the woman. With the help of another person he tried to get her back up to the platform. Time was quickly running out as a train was approaching. Officer Swainson recalled what Metro had taught him a day earlier during orientation and positioned the woman in a small safe area under the platform’s granite edge.

While, to my knowledge the news media didn’t get a chance to interview Officer Swainson, Metro public relations people did. They posted the interview on YouTube.
