UPDATE – One DC firefighter dead, one wounded in Maryland tragedy: Notices had been at every DC firehouse that Firefighter Dante Paire was not to set foot on fire department property. Sources say Paire had been on enforced leave with concerns about his mental health and violent threats. Police say Paire wounded his estranged girlfriend, DC Firefighter Jessica Wimbish, shot her parents and then killed himself. Read more.
We have updated our story with Maryland court records showing that Wimbish had briefly filed a stay-order against Paire in 2007. Paire had a hearing today on a similar order filed by another woman.
