Chief's office in Ansonia, Connecticut broken into. Weapons stolen. Mayor wants to know why chief had guns in work place.
Ron Burgess has been suspended as the fire chief of Ansonia, Connecticut after his office at the Public Works complex was broken into and ransacked. The suspension by Mayor Jim Della Volpe comes after it was discovered that among the items missing from the chief's office are a handgun and a rifle. The mayor said in a statement "I have never authorized the storage of firearms at any city building other than the police department out of concern for the public safety of our citizens."
The burglary was discovered Tuesday morning. Other workers at the Public Works complex noticed that the door to the chief's office was open when they reported to work. Also taken were an air pack, valued at about $5,000, six scanners with a total value of about $900, five sets of safety glasses and and five sets of earmuffs.
