Investigators believe an electrical problem sparked a fire in the engine bay at St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 1’s Station 14 Saturday morning. The fire broke out around 11:30 AM. The building is located at 297 Steele Road.
Fire officials say it took 20 firefighters 23 minutes to get the situation under control.
“The station is about 50% damaged and we will have to relocate the District 1 station to the Station 17 located near the intersection of Brownswitch and Robert Roads for now,” said Chief of Administration Chris Kaufmann.
The hose tender, a large truck used to carry fire hoses, was destroyed along with the personal vehicles of three firefighters.
