Six families were displaced Wednesday afternoon after a three-alarm fire ripped through the second and third floors of 135-139 Salem St., according to the Lowell Fire Department. Some residents were home at the time, but no injuries have been reported.
Lowell Deputy Fire Chief Patrick McCabe said the initial fire call at 2:10 p.m. sent firefighters to Merrimack Street, which was an incorrect report. The firefighters repositioned quickly to the three-floor apartment building on Salem Street as flames shot through the second-floor windows.
