Shea Johnson, Daily Press:

Nobody was injured after a residence in the 15000 block of Cheyenne Road went ablaze Thursday afternoon, and fire officials are looking into whether it was started by a discarded cigarette.

The incident, which started on the patio of the home, was reported at 4 p.m., according to Apple Valley Fire Protection District Fire Marshal Jason Nailon.

Five units — four from the AVFPD and one from the Victorville Division of the San Bernardino County Fire Department — arrived on scene.

“When we got the call, there was heavy smoke showing already,” Nailon said, “Once we got on scene, we were hampered by downed live power lines and a lack of water supply.”
