Helmet-cam video from Cowpens Fire Department of a recent fire in Cowpens, South Carolina. The camera is on the officer from the first-arriving engine. Here’s a description of the fire provided by the department:
Cowpens Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire at the above address. Converse and Drayton Fire Departments were dispatched as automatic aid. Cowpens Engine 3 was the first unit to respond. Upon arrival, Cowpens Engine 3 found a single wide mobile home with fire venting from the left side of the structure. Bystanders on scene were advising that no one was inside the structure, but there were four pets believed to still be inside. Command was initiated, and a walk-around size up was conducted. An inch and three quarter hoseline was deployed to the front door of the structure. At this time, Cowpens 10 and Converse Engine 1 arrived on scene. Converse Engine 1 was assigned to deploy a backup hoseline, and provide initial RIT duties. Command was transferred to Cowpens 10, and Engine 3 personnel entered the front door of the structure for fire attack. Engine 3’s personnel also quickly located and removed deceased pets from inside the structure. Cowpens Tanker 1 arrived, and initiated water supply by means of nursing the attack engine. Cowpens Rescue 1 arrived and provided scene lighting. The electrical meter was removed from the meter base, and power was turned off to the structure. Drayton Engine 3 and Utility 1 arrived, and personnel reported to staging. After a brief period, Command was advised that the fire was extinguished, and interior personnel were beginning overhaul. After interior overhaul was completed, Engine 3’s personnel exited for rehab. Final overhaul was finished with exterior hoselines, and equipment was returned to service. Command spoke with the property owner, who was on scene. The property owner stated he had recently replaced some electrical wiring that he believed to have been chewed by the pets inside. He also told Command that the occupants were not routinely occupying the residence, but the pets remained there. It was believed that the fire had started in the rear of the home, near where the animals had been chewing wires. After further discussion with the property owner, and a final check to ensure extinguishment, all fire personnel cleared the scene.
