No punishment for FL firefighters tailed to store by county commissioner

No one is being punished after Seminole County  Commissioner Brenda Carey followed firefighters to a grocery store and complained they were in violation of policy. But the story isn’t over. WFTV-TV reporter Tim Barber reports that just a day after filing her complaint, Commissioner Carey praised firefighters in a meeting on an unrelated topic. Carey said, “Certainly we are a team with the firefighters” as she publicly thanked those at the meeting for the quality of service they provide the community.

WFTV-TV:

No disciplinary action will be taken against Seminole County firefighters after a county commissioner called them out for going to the grocery store during their shift.

“In my discussion with the fire chief, it was determined that no disciplinary action was warranted in this case and the fire chief will direct the employee to be counseled as to the requirements of the applicable policy,” said the deputy county manager.

Since Channel 9’s story aired on Monday, Seminole County residents have been dropping food off at the station, showing their support for the men who risk their lives for the county.

Others have voiced their support for Carey, who said she was looking out for taxpayer dollars.
